I thought the Lester cut was better too. Donner loses massive points for the horrible ending to STM and SII...spinning the world backwards. Never liked that.

I didn't include the Donner cut because it came so late afterward that I can't find a place for it in my mind. The theatrical version or Lester's version is the one I remember the most.

The thing about STM is that it’s an unfinished story. Of course, it was planned as the first half of a two-part movie series. So its incomplete narrative is addressed and resolved in SII. But the problem there is that SII is conspicuously inferior to STM. Consequently, neither one - as individual, stand-alone films - is satisfactory. You sorta have to take them together as one story - and then try to focus on the quality of the first movie while ignoring the lack of same in the second.
