Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is described as a high-speed action game where you use effects to defeat enemies. The first trailer fits that description with Ranko sliding through levels and colorful objects popping out whenever an enemy is defeated.

Short Peace is a series of four short films directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, best known as the creator of Akira. The fifth story, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day, is a video game designed by No More Heroes and killer7 director Goichi Suda and the director of Tokyo Jungle Yohei Kataoka. Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is described as a high-speed action game where you use effects to defeat enemies. This PlayStation 3 sidescroller is the fifth story in Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo’s upcoming film, Short Peace. Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day will be released as a combo with the film on January 16, 2014.

Grasshopper Manufacture director Goichi Suda is involved in a bunch of projects. He’s developing Lily Bergamo with GungHo Online Entertainment, contributing to Liberation Maiden Sin with Mages, and working on Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day.

This PlayStation 3 sidescroller is the fifth story in Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo’s upcoming film, Short Peace. Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day will be released as a combo with the film on January 16, 2014. The movie/game combo will retail for 6,980 yen ($70).

Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is a high-speed side-scrolling platformer for the PS3 developed by Suda51 as part of Short Peace, an animated film omnibus directed by Katsuhiro Otomo of Akira fame and animated by veterans of the anime industry. Working with Suda51 is Tokyo Jungle director Youhei Takaoka andNo More Heroes artist Yusuke Kozaki.

The game is a high speed side-scrolling platformer in which you play as Ranko Tsukigime, the daughter of a Japanese business conglomerate who lives the life of a school girl during the day and a hitman at night. Determined not to lose against the rest of Short Peace, the game boasts detailed animations and levels with dizzying powers called Effects.

Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day and Short Peace will be packaged together starting on January 16, 2014.

Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is part of a game/movie mashup anthology of stories from Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo’s upcoming film Short Peace, and fills in the arc between “Combustible,” set in Edo Japan, and “A Farewell to Arms,” set in the future.​

The game section is being developed by killer7 director Goichi Suda and Tokyo Jungle director Yohei Kataoka. It also has us running away from a Pomeranian.​

In the latest update for the game Grasshopper share that Ranko will also swap from its “high-speed action game” sequences we’ve previously seen to a shoot-em-up against a foe called… er, Killer Dragon. This fellow, apparently, is Ranko’s classmate. Oh my. Ah, well. Who cares. Kill him anyway!

Namco Bandai are bringing Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day to the west via PlayStation Network. The western release is titled Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day.

The game is the fifth story in a series of four short stories called Short Peace, directed by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo. While the first four stories are animated shorts, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is a game.

It’s been designed by No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda and Tokyo Jungle director Yohei Kataoka, and is a colourful, fast-paced action game. You can watch a Japanese trailer for it above, and read a short story summary below, provided by Namco.

High school girl by day, assassin by night. The perfect setup for this frantic side-scroller directed by Suda 51 of Grasshopper fame. This PS3 exclusive follows the story of the titular Ranko Tsukigime as she evades the clutches of a shadowy power that’s clawing at her heels.

Each level is a race to outrun Ranko’s enemies while also dodging obstacles and defeating baddies who get in her way. Fall behind, and Ranko will be swallowed up by darkness before beginning the level anew.

Longest Day is an explosion of movement and color, where players never rest in their mad dash from one side of the stage to the other. Slashing through enemies will unleash debris that in turn can defeat other opponents. Longest Day caters to gamers who obsess over perfecting their run through a level, eliminating every superfluous jump and missed attack.

Clearing missions will eventually unlock new costumes for Ranko, and unlockable art is scattered throughout the campaign.
