Raya and the Last Dragon

So most of that teaser was from her childhood? And the rest of the movie is the adult/older version of her? Cause honestly I like the design of the adult version better :oldrazz:.

If this gets move to Disney+, I'm going to be freaking devastated. Especially after that trailer, this NEEDS to be shown on the big screen. I love how "legendary" it feels, definitely more in line with the darker era than the last couple but still gorgeous and full of a very fun mythological mix.
I am waiting on the trailer to watch with my friend and brother, but I have been pretty hyped for this. The basic concept really sings to me and I am very excited about the idea of watching it in theaters. But considering the "release date" and what happened with both Soul and Onward, I could see this one on Disney+.

So I saw the trailer, and I think it looks great. Little Raya reminds me of little Korra. :hehe:

Though what got me the most was the "sound" they play during the trailer. It reminded me of something else Disney and once I realize what it was, I couldn't unhear it:

wow this looks awesome, like Rey from Starwars meets Indiana Jones

I gots to have it.

"Hey kids do you like Disney animated movies?"

"Yeah!"

"Did you really enjoy Moana and Big Hero 6?"

"Yeah!"

"Did you like Kubo and the Two Strings?"

"Yeah!"

"Well hold on to you're butts because this might have things you liked about them and be different enough to carve out it's own place."

I can't believe it'll be 5 years since the last original Disney theatrical animated film, Moana!

I'm still kind of bummed they axed Gigantic. Was really looking forward to it.

Same. It's a tradition for Disney to make a classic fairy tale their own. I guess the last one being Frozen (Snow Queen). Hope they do it again soon.

This is definitely going to be different I imagine but it's going to be action-y like Big Hero 6 is, more what you would say is stereotypically boyish, then you have the female lead like Moana and you're exploring a different culture like that, then you have the just Kubo kinda vibe with the specific region you're in and time frame.

Then you get some Tomb Raider vibes. It's fun.

I cant wait to get the details and nuances, you know?

This was a movie I was really looking forward to this year so getting a trailer was nice even if it does get pushed back.

I didn’t even know about this movie until I saw the poster yesterday and I was immediately interested as this is the kind of mythology I like and the trailer just rocketed up my interest, it looks fantastic from the visuals, the scope, the lead character and her sidekick, her journey and mission, it all looks great!

The second part made me think of Rey on Jakku.

The Rey/Korra/Nausicaa vibes seem very intentional. And I am all for them! :mrk:

You mean you don't spend most of your days staring at the Disney release calendar, like me and @Snow Queen, Hunter? For shame. :o

Liked the trailer. Definitely intrigued by this badass ninja/ronin Tomb Raiding warrior Princess! And definitely got Korra/Kitarra (from Avatar) and even Kitana (from Mortal Kombat) vibes. Plus, she's a cutie with an adorable animal sidekick of course!

As someone who is half-Asian (Chinese), it's always nice to see more Asian cultures and influences represented. And South-East Asian culture is usually less represented than the traditional Chinese/Japanese cultures when it comes to Asian influences.

I hope this movie is good and successful and hope that this new character will become as popular as the other Disney princesses. From what I've seen from the trailer, she's certainly a unique, welcome addition to the princess lineup.

I thought the trailer was fine, but it didn't stand out for me.

Looks fabulous to me, I like her little buddy.

I don’t really get the comparisons between her and katara other than being two kick ass women? Surely if you wanted to kick off about that sort of thing you would start with all the James Bond or Han Solo archetypes

Yes. I have heard this brought up too.

Also, main character protecting a Dragon?

Dragon Prince....?

Looks way too familiar. Got massive Korra/Avatar vibes from this.

I get that criticism of it based on the trailer. Maybe it's a Star Wars or Indiana Jones situation and not James Cameron's Avatar if that makes any sense.

Execution matters.
