RCS Messaging Thread: Texting of the Future

@Lily Adler I like the name change 😎

So I was thinking this is bad news but it's not all bad, just more of Verizon pushing Google messages onto their customers which is a good thing but if I read correctly I thought Verizon themselves were also dropping RCS support. What would that mean for iphone Verizon users?
SMS and RCS have no security when used between Android and iPhones, the security only works on Android phones alone.
Yes but SMS has been the standard all this time and it's how iPhones and Androids have been texting for two decades. Why didn't the FBI say something before?

I think it's because China's hackers have now been found to be inside the telecom systems.

This comes off as uninformed imo

Google and GSMA are working together to enable end-to-end encryption with both versions of RCS. So your Galaxy or Pixel can message your iPhone friends and families safe and securely.

But I see social media people pushing Signal over this.

Signal probably is better, but I'd rather stick to the default texting app if that's what everyone else is doing. I really hope Apple changes the color of their encrypted RCS bubbles.

Make em purple 💜

I really don't get why these articles keep saying the same thing. Default texting between iPhones and Androids has been SMS which has been unencrypted forever, and now all of a sudden because of RCS they want people to stop?
Basically they don't want people to message each other unless it's on a third party app like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal.

I get that, but why are they saying that now? for the past 5-10 years, texting between iOS and Android has been unencrypted. RCS isn't all of a sudden making it unencrypted. at the very least, it's at least encrypted in transit. just not end to end encrypted. to my knowledge, SMS doesn't come with any encryption at all.

The nation's largest telecom companies were hacked by Chinese cyber group.

Yep, so just know your texts with iPhones aren't secure if you have a Pixel or Galaxy.
basically any Android phone texting with an iPhone on the default texting app. ugh, this sucks. they really need to bring e2ee like yesterday.

WhatsApp for international customers or FB Messenger for people in the States.
