Superman Returns Re: The Offical Jason Appreciation Thread

You'd have a leg to stand on if Singer addressed this in his movie.
He did though. When Lex was giving his monologue about Superman not being good with court appearances, Lois asks him point-blank if he engineered Superman leaving. Lex shrugs with a smug smile on his face.

No Movie is "perfect" & what rules ? Everyone has their own view of Superman...

No, laymen have views, and experts know the character's history.

That still does not change the fact that many People have their own view & see Superman differently.

Not everyone will agree on one thing

Sorry, but you are projecting your recommended reading onto Spacey's performance. That is no indication of Luthor's duplicity, it's an attempt at covering one's own ass in act III about something that should have been addressed in act 1.

As much as I enjoyed SR, it was a big mistake to not start this movie showing us how Luthor conned Superman off planet.

Superman and Lois had sex in Superman II, despite SR being vauge it's interesing that Singer used this into continuity. Aside from Kryptonite, Superman is very powerful. Using the kid and having Richard with Lois is his own emotional Kryptonite. He can't find a way around that.

agreed. I know it's fleshed out in the novel, but does anyone know if any scenes were filmed explaining Lex's involvement in the supposed discovery of Krypton?

I don't know about that. I've seen the film twice and the same scene plays out the same way. Lois asks him and Spacey smiles smugly about it instead of answering her either way. It's a few beats on Spacey's face before he continues. Sure, it's open to interpretation as it's never outright said, but the implication definitely seems to be there.

as I remember it, she asks him if he was responsible for the blackout, to which he smiles in response.

So the novel DOES go into more detail about Lex's involvment? So it is not merely an interpretation of the film.

Well, I'm seeing it again tomorrow. I can find out for sure.

from what I've heard, yeah. haven't actually read it myself but I'm almost certain others on this board have said as much.

Good thing history isn't that subjective. People want to ***** about how badly Singer got it wrong, I'm just pointing out that Singer set very few precedents in this movie with his "flaws".

That's why it's a weak explanation, well that and as Dope pointed out the question was about the blackout, not Superman's absence. Had we been in on the con from the get go, then we'd have a nice nugget of suspense throughout the movie.

Meh, I have predicted this debate a year ago.

Look it is a different time. He most likely had been in a unique (not a lot of talk about one's past I would bet) relationship with Lois Lane (I bet he had banged her more than once) and once he leaves he can't tell her and she is pissed and finds comfort in Richard. She probably was never sure which was the father.

Now onto here we are, having a child out of wedlock today is not a big deal (however, not taking care of that child is) and though I'm glad it isn't comics cannon, IT WORKS in this movie and will provide some conflict for sequels, something this movie desperately needs. Without the child there would be no conflict as it would be a mere repeat of Spider-Man 2. This new plotline works and can be explored further.

The only people who should be complaining about the wedlock issue is soccor moms. Drop the subject, now.

While I don't oppose the kid storyline, or the out of wedlock issue, you have just made yourself out to be a complete tool with that imperative.

Stomp your feet and cry some more, not everybody liked SR.

C'mon......suddenly having a kid out of wed lock is all wrong?

That's ****ing bull****.

How in the world that this happen? When did Supe got horny and when did he and Lois got jiggy with it?

Vague history...:o

Maybe I'm rationalizing a little bit here and I'll probably be flamed BIG-TIME, but do we know for certain that Jason is Superman's son? We never actually saw him perform any superhuman feats. The "piano scene" happened off-camera and Richard opened the door before Jason did. We never actually heard what Lois whispered to Superman. Maybe Singer wanted us to jump to this conclusion. Of course, I have no other explanation for the "piano scene" but stranger things have happened.

Superman put on some Barr White, she got into it.......and they made sweet, sweet, sweet love. OOOOhhhh,, Baby baby......

Nice way to spoil it for people...I'm sure those non-spoiler forum members appreciate seeing this subject when they browse the main forums page.

The mods did take off the sticky about spoilers in thread titles

Hey, I posted in the SPOILER section last time I checked. BTW, why would non-spoiler members hang around here in the SPOILER part of the boards.
