Superman Returns Re: The Offical Jason Appreciation Thread

Yep and dropped a hint about kid's paternity.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]So by building the story around, in part, a 5-year-old child, the movie is telling us that a 21-year-old Superman had sex with a barely 18-year-old Lois Lane in Superman II.

Gotta love this guy's dumb as **** logic.

If anything what it actually tells us, since he seems convinced that a character's age is identical to the actor, then it means that in superman II they were NOT 21 and 18, but rather what ever age Reeve and Kidder were.

So what clearly happened, acording to this guy's mentality, is that they actually simply found some magical age reversing serum and got younger after they had sex, duh. See

Canon NEVER changes, hence it being canon. Ex: Superman is from Krypton, raised in Smallville, Red, Blue, and Yellow costume with a red \S/, Lois and Supes/Clark have feelings (and in fact have been married in past, so even that can be considered part of canon)...I could go on. At no point outside of an Elseworlds story (Son Of Superman) did Kal and Lois have a kid...I think 95% of fans out there would agree with me that this is basic canon.

It is just a concern...and you are right, we could be getting freaked for no reason. It's jsut the idea oa a super-kid is so foreign to anything we know (that and I personally feel the whole "Daddy" thing would take away from the great stories that could be told) that we are uncomortable at even the thought.

Ah huh, you do realise that these things have not always been and were introduced and changed through out the history? "Canon NEVER changes, hence it being canon" and yet you go on to call several things that have changed and evolved throughout the history as your deffinition of "canon."

Things change and expand. That is all that is happening. They are not changing anything in the past, which is what I believe you are meaning about canon (but even that changes looking at pre-post crisis.)

All that is happening is that they are expanding and evolving what is going on, in a continuity that is truely built on canon.

Thus they have changed nothing of canon at all.

If they simply began it as an origin where Superman and Lois are arried before he even first became Superman, then THAT would be changing canon, or, you know, making Krypton truely not blow up.

Canon and movies are different. I'm not sure how to do spoiler tags. So, spoilers below.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Wolverine ever kill Jean in any of the comics? Did Jean ever kill Scott, or the Prof.? Did Rogue ever give up her powers to be normal? Did Clark ever give up his powers to be with Lois(except the movies)? Did Clark ever have sex with Lana Lang(SV)? And what the Hulk movie? His dad messing with his DNA, etc.

That's a shame...but you know. I feel the exact same way...but in the reverse. If the kid is not Superman's and it's Lois and Richard...well I guess I gotta give up my love for Superman...NOT!!!!!

I may not like this movie, and I will be highly disappointed with Singer, and I'll come here and ***** my little fangirl heart out until I'm completely content and convinced you know I hate Singer, but I'm not going to give up on Superman.

That's...like....****ing crazy:(

:up::up: True...be pissed at the director...not at the :supes:

fair assessment, (and maybe I shouldn't have said RED \S/...but there has always been an S) BUT adding a kid to the mix is not evolution. it is the introduction of an element that A) Has NEVER been breached in the canon (and mayeb i'd be different about it if it had been introduced in the comics first as opposed to a general medium like movies...who knows) and B) If it is a Super-kid it's just being dropped in, in what I feel is the wrong way. I have trouble with the kid in general, and further have trouble with him being what can only be assumed as a bastard child (medievel term not meant to insult) of Lois and Superman.

Well, you also mentioned the marriage.

Lets also remember that said marriage, Kryptonite, the Daily Planet, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, and MANY other things considered to be true canon were ALL introduced outside of the comics first as an evolution or change.

I'd be pissed at both.

Seriously if this movie is a disapointment...thats it for Superman for me.

Theres no more DCAU (STAS was the best interpretation of supes on TV).

And the comics are annoying me with constantly altering the origins and timelines for the postcrisis.

I was hoping this film would be Superman finally done right in a live action format for the first time since Donners 1978 picture.

Still hoping.....

Oh come on, you can't hate Supes because of a sucky movie. I didn't give up on Supergirl when that movie sucked.

Thats funny cuz DC gave up on Supergirl when the movie sucked, killed her off in the crisis. Kara wasnt brought back up until about 2 yrs ago.

I just wana see Superman represented well and he hasnt been in a live action format.....since the first Donner movie.

I wana see live action Superman done right.

Done right by your standards... This has the potential to be really great stuff. Superman having a son has never been explored. It creates a whole new dimension for the character and the relationship with Lois.

As C_H has said plenty of times, there is some stupid notion that we'll see Supers and Jason flying side by side together fighting crime. Singer won't let it become crap. The story is there for a reason, try seeing it through before you judge it.

It makes me sad. I want to see a good Supergirl movie. At least before I die.....j/k

Well, the kid could become a hero someday, living in his fathers footsteps. Also, bearhulk, you might wanna use spell check. Just a tip.

I doubt she'll get a movie....but Im hoping its likely Kara gets introduced in the Superman movies later on.

Well see how its handled, I still dont buy it.

This may be petty but they could have also cast a different looking kid if it was really Superman's son.

The kid playing Jason looks like the exact spawn of Bosworth and Marsden. Looks nothing like Brandon.

I wonder if the concept of Superman and Lois having a child would work better if the child was a girl

The marriage was planned first in the comic book. They were engaged in 1990 in Superman 50, the marriage was supposed to happen in Superman 75 but they postponed it because the TV show was in the works and they decided to coincide the wedding with the tv show. So to delay things they killed Superman amongst other things.

Oh, bearhulk, I didn't mean it as an insult, in case thats what you thought. It must be me, but the kid doesn't look like Marsden. He does look like Bosworth however.

hey just got in my mind , lois have sex with which one of that guy Scott Summers/Cyclops and clark kent/superman so jaosn have power who who father LOL jk

Not really good at determaining who looks like who (I always hate when people do it with little kids, I never see it). Either way... James tried out for Superman before too. He has the same kind of facial features that we would expect (cheekbones and jaw).

EDIT: Look at the hair. It's straight like Clark's, not wavvy like Richards. There's 1 for Supes. But really, he looks like neither Clark nor Richard, more like Lois then anything else.

not to worry about it , it happend so

Marsdens Hair is straight. Its just blowing in the wind in that pic.

He had straight hair back on that show; Boogies Diner. I used to watch it in Canada.

Im just saying if they wanted to make him Superman's son, maybe cast a kid who resembles Routh more. Jason looks nothing like Brandon but alot like the other 2.

Steven Bender was even cast for his resemblence to Brandon and Chris Reeve and works perfectly in the role...

So yes, they do are about this stuff when casting.
