I thought the original Horst Buchholz was an odd choice, especially since Chico was supposed to Mexican, I guess suggesting Tom Holland follows the trend of completely miscasting the character.
Also Charles Bronson was somewhat passable as the half Mexican/Irish Bernardo O'Reilly, Matthias Schoenaerts, not even close.

With a movie that takes place in Mexico, and following the descriptions of the characters, it'd be nice to see some effort to cast at least one Mexican/or latino in the group, and that is as other than as the villain!

Good point. I didn't really have any idea for Chico, any suggestions? As for O'Reilly, Trejo is too old so I'm not sure who either, once again any suggestions? That said my two favorite characters and actors in the original one are Bronson, a Ukrainian Gentleman playing half Mexican/Irish and Eli Wallach, not even close to Mexican either, so maybe there are no rules.
And I stand by Demian Bichir (as well as my other suggestionst:), awesome actor who would make a great Calvera
