Sci-Fi Tron: Ares with Jared Leto

Haven't seen the movie, but the trailers sure look cheap as it is. I feel like part of the appeal of the first two movies is the techno Wizard of Oz quality. But who wants to see a Wizard of Oz sequel where a Munchkin you've never met before ends up in Kansas?

Your choice comes down to either making one at that budget or not at all essentially. But if you're making the choice to make one, then you have to invest that money. Tron just isn't cheap to produce by design. I wouldn't have greenlit this movie at all. Even though I like the franchise

That’s pretty much my point, greenlighting this and giving it the same budget as an MCU and a Jurassic movie just doesn’t make sense at all.

For that budget they would have been better off making a Legacy sequel.

Sadly accurate. Aged well too.
To this day I'm not even sure if I would have even seen the original Tron if it wasn't for Legacy. Until then the only real familiarity I had with it was Kingdom Hearts II.

Yeah I didn't even know the original movie existed until it was used as a world in KH2.

The first one came out when I was a toddler.

Tron Legacy came in when I was in my early 30s .

Now I'm a 40 something, middle aged man , with Tron : Ares .

Since Disney seems to revisit this property every twenty years, give or take , I'm be in my early 60s the next time they make another Tron film . .

The MCU hasn't had budgets that low in a while, despite their claims.

But at least the MCU has had mostly sure fire hits to justify the budget. Tron has only had 2 underperforming movies prior years and years apart. Tron is never a sure fire hit. I think a direct Legacy sequel would have done better at the BO though.

I think it may have done better cause Tron Legacy has a nostalgia factor to it now, but honestly what IS better? Probably would have at that movie's ceiling been similar to what Legacy did.

I think with Kosinski and Murphy's stars rising so much since Legacy, it would have been more successful than Ares will be.

:weary:

The concept of digital code existing within computers as intelligent beings was done better in the animated series "Reboot" than any Tron film.

Sure but Tron Uprising did it even better despite ending on a cliffhanger.

I will never understand how Disney dropped the ball on that animated show. You had Elijah Wood as your star with Bruce Boxleitner very much playing the mentorship role very akin to Terry Mcginnis and Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond. And you put it on the Disney channel instead of Disney XD . Idiots

It wasn't on Disney XD?
