Recent movies you highly anticipated but ended up hating

I thought Social Network was awesome. And i think the main reason was because of Fincher's broody, almost mean spirited tone and Reznor's score that sat menacingly in the background. It's a movie about so called friends stabbing each other in the back at the end of the day. It's not exactly cheerful material.

I tend to agree. I've liked almost all of Fincher's previous films. I finally saw this a month or so ago and while it's well directed and written, it just can't overcome the dull-as-dishwater premise. I didn't find myself caring about any of the characters in the film. All I kept hoping for was that they'd all end up dumpster diving on skid row and living in cardboard boxes by the end of the film.

But onto my opinion.

Usually when I anticipate a movie, I usually watch it the first day in theatres, and walk out thinking its good. Then if it's actually bad, i'll start to realize that after I watch it again on DVD or something.

A good example for this, was when I was soo hyped to see the Elm Street remake because I loved the previous MB remakes, so I thought this would be the cats pajamas of remakes cause it features my favorite slasher killer.

First time I watched it in theatres I agreed it was the second BEST of the entire series. After watching it a year later on DVD, I turned it off half way thru and realized it's one of the worst remakes ever. Even up there with Pyscho. It's one of the very few movies I think that could of benefited from 3D with the dream scenes and stuff, could of made the movie a really unique horror film theatre experience, instead they a took giant crusty dump on my childhood.

The acting in that film was soooooo ****ing bad. It's no surprise we'll see none of them apart from JEH and Mara again outside of tv shows and crappy low budget non entity films.

Yeah, all the acting was bad aside for JEH for like a scene or two. I think before he kills the kid in the boiler room he had a really creepy vibe/presence, but that was it.

Even Mara was crap in it, it's like she slept walk thru the entire film literlly. I was blown away by her in Dragon Tattoo because of her bad performance on Elm Street. Actually, to be honest, I think her performance in Dragon Tattoo is actually even better because she was THAT bad in Elm Street.

Hulk (2003) - I was so pumped for that one. That might have been the summer movie I was looking forward to most that year and it totally let me down.

Alice in Wonderland - Tim Burton's worst film after Planet of the Apes. It still puzzles me how this movie grossed $1 billion worldwide.

I think a lot of Drive's reviews were a little over the top. It's no masterpiece but I really enjoyed it for what it was: A damn good movie with a topnotch cast.

Spider-Man 3.

Bar none the MOST disappointing film I've ever seen. I had the utmost highest expectations for this movie and with all it had going for it (Spider-Man 2 being a critical darling, an amazing teaser trailer that actually shut this whole forum down, Harry Osborn taking up the mantle of the Goblin, Venom, etc), how could I be blamed for my expectations? I was rewarded with trash. I remember being legitimately being angry as I was leaving the theater. Now before some punk Spider-Man fans start to quote me and get on my case, this movie was nowhere close to being the worst movie of all-time. It was, however, the most disappointing film I've ever watched.

I think it's success was more to do with people wanting to see a modern live action Alice in Wonderland. But who knows, we'll never be allowed to read certain people's minds will we?

I think the people who think its overrated are kinda missing what's so good about the movie.

It's quality is really drawn from its cinematography, acting, directing, and score. The plot really took a back seat to all of those other aspects.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I also think that a lot of the "movie of the year" accolades it was given had more to do with 2011 being kind of a crappy year for movies in general.

Well yeah, and the 3D helped too. But I just can't grasp that people saw this MULTIPLE times in theaters.
