Red Ash Thread (Mega Man Legends Spiritual Successor)

Here’s What You Need To Know About The Director Of Red Ash. July 13, 2015 . 1:15pm

Masahiro Yasuma has worked on a long list of Mega Man games.

Red Ash, Comcept’s spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends, is being directed by Masahiro Yasuma. In a recent update, Comcept shared a list of achievements to Yasuma’s name over the past few years, and it provides a little insight into his background and the kind of games he’s worked on. Let’s begin with those.

  • Mega Man Battle & Chase – Main Planner & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Legends – Event & Mini-game Planner
  • The Misadventures of Tron Bonne – Main Planner & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network 2 – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network 3 – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network 4 – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network 5 – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Battle Network 6 – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Star Force – Director & Game Designer
  • Mega Man Star Force 2 – Main Planner
  • Mega Man Star Force 3 – Director & Game Designer
  • Rockman.EXE: Operate Shooting Star – Series Director
  • Yaiba: NINJA GAIDEN Z – Game Director

In a message posted to the Kickstarter blog, Yasuma states: “I was given the interesting job of planning smaller events in [Mega Man] Legends. In order to help fulfill the goal of “a game with lots of freedom, where it’s even fun to just wander around”, I filled the world with lots of minor props and events.”

“For example, if you kicked an empty can into a certain place, something would happen. You could shoot at birds, pick up erotic magazines (they were just manga overseas!), kick and break vending machines, and so many more little details that I can’t even count them! In Tron Bonne I came up with the idea of a command system, where you could lock on to something and tell your Servbots to do various things depending on what it was. Now that I think about it, it wasn’t really that much different!”

Red Ash is in development for PC and an as-yet-undecided console.

Even though there is still 20 days to go, this KS has slowed down considerably. I'll be surprised if it hits the second stretch goal at this point.

Red Ash Gameplay Footage Coming Soon, Says Comcept. July 16, 2015 . 8:58am

“We will be showing more development progress as the campaign goes on,” says Comcept.

[YT]yTsj5IaXq_I[/YT]
The Kickstarter for Keiji Inafune’s Red Ash isn’t doing all that well. It’s going slower than one would expect from a popular crowdfunding campaign, and the game’s development staff appear to have recognized this.

Over on Twitter, the Red Ash development team tweeted: “We are cooking up a nice little surprise for those who want to see Red Ash gameplay of some sort. But it will still take some more time! We will be showing more development progress as the campaign goes on. The team is working hard on it as we speak!”

Until gameplay footage is ready to be shown, you’ll need to make do with the animatic above. This is an extended version of some of the story concepts depicted in the Red Ash Kickstarter video. It’s a mini-episode that takes place on the day leading up to the game’s KalKanon storyline.

Meanwhile, Red Ash backers now have the ability to vote for what console will receive a port of the game. Which console is in the lead remains unknown.

Red Ash Art Director: “Very difficult for creators to make the games they truly want to work on”. July 17, 2015 . 9:01am

Kazushi Ito shares a message with fans looking forward to the game.

In a blog post on the Red Ash Kickstarter page, the game’s art director, Kazushi Ito, shares a message with fans looking forward to the game, and shares a little background on what he feels is special about the project. Ito has worked on titles like Mega Man Legends and Parasite Eve 2. Here’s what he says:

I’ve worked on developing games at various companies and settings up until now. Making games is so much work that it almost feels like the game becomes part of your own body. Yes, the development work itself can be tough, but it’s the other factors, both external and internal, that really give us a hard time.

For example, I can’t name names, but struggles for supremacy within a company have destroyed games, and certain people who have loud voices and not much else have turned entire workplaces into a mess. Just thinking about all that trouble in the past makes me really sad. Planning and developing games can feel a lot like the hatching of sea turtles: an intense struggle for survival where few make it out alive.

Because of development environments like that, it’s very difficult for creators to make the games they truly want to work on.

For this game, Inafune-san came to us and told us “Just make what you really want to make!” This is something nearly unheard of in the Japanese game development world of today. After receiving words like that, we decided to put our full effort into creating a wonderful game that will bring fun and joy to our players. It’s not often that we get a chance like this; it could even be once in a lifetime for me.
Red Ash is in development for PC. The Kickstarter campaign for the game will end in 17 days. It has amassed around $400,000 in funding so far—half its goal.

Looks at this now, I'm not even 100% sure this will hit the funded goal. Still 14 days to go, but it's slowed down so much within the last few days it is going to be a close one

This whole thing seems to have been botched. If anything, they should have waited until after their other and first game launched. Or tried to announce it at some sort of major expo (E3, or Gamescom).

Also, for 800,000 a gameplay mock up really seems like it should have been a given. I mean, there really isn't much to talk about here.

Also apparently you have to pay at least 79 dollars to get a copy of the game. And that's for PC. That's way more than with the other Kickstarters I have seen for console games. A game mind you that is simply concept art at this point.

Red Ash Devteam Asks Fans To Vote For The Mayor Of An In-Game Village. July 20, 2015 . 9:59am

Who should it be?
One of the characters in Comcept’s Red Ash will be the mayor of a small village isolated from the rest of the world. In the game, you’ll be interacting with a lot of the townsfolk in this village, including its mayor, and the development team is letting fans—not just backers—vote for who it should be. Your four choices are below.

Details on each of the four can be found on this page. Once you’ve read through the brief descriptions of each, you can vote for one of them using this poll.

As I mentioned earlier, I understand why they chose to launch this before MN9 came out. It obviously hasn't worked, but I get it. The rest of it, yeah, just not well thought out at all. And then pulling the whole 'Oh, it's coming to a console, and we'll let you vote and all, but we aren't going to reveal which console until the goal is met' thing did not help. Did not help at all.

Red Ash Kickstarter adds PS4 stretch goal
Published 4 hours ago. 70 comments.
"This was the overall trend since the poll opened."

Red-Ash-KS-PS4-Stretch-Goal.jpg

Earlier this month, Keiji Inafune’s Red Ash: The Indelible Legend Kickstarter camapign announced a stretch goal for a single console port. After polling users, Comcept has announced that console will be PlayStation 4.
Out of a total 2,628 votes, 1,749 backers wanted the game on PlayStation 4, 655 on Wii U, and 224 on Xbox One.

“We have been checking the results on a daily basis and this was the overall trend since the poll opened,” Comcept said in a blog post.
“As promised, we took the in-progress results of this poll to our 1st party contacts and were able to make headway in our negotiations with the various parties. As a result, we were able to officially confirm the development of Red Ash for the PlayStation 4.”
The PlayStation 4 version, however, is still but a stretch goal. Red Ash needs $800,000 for its base funding and PC version, and $1 million for the PlayStation 4 version. With 10 days to go until the Kickstarter closes, it’s currently funded $455,000.

Smart of them to reveal the console during the Kickstarter instead of after, which was always stupid, but it's not a console I own or will probably own in the immediate future so it doesn't give me much incentive at the end of the day. I still may pledge, just to keep the Legends alive in memory. I doubt this is going to make its goal, though.

most article say single consol port but I headed to the:>> Kickstarter camapign

and it read's

UPDATE (July 23, 2015): STRETCH GOAL UPDATE! PlayStation 4 has been officially confirmed as the first console port! Help us reach our goal and more consoles could be next!

This is just under the video screen at the link above.
so I guess this won't be as exclusive the articles are stating

Anyway people will still have chance wit the consoles they want

Red Ash prototype gameplay footage
Published 2 hours ago. 20 comments.
First look at the bare bones in motion.

Red-Ash-Pre-Alpha_07-24-15.jpg

Comcept has shared a video showcasing pre-alpha gameplay footage for Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, its Mega Man Legends successor currently on Kickstarter.

The company notes that the footage was created to show off the atmosphere it hopes to create with Red Ash and that “everything shown is a work-in-progress with placeholder assets.” Which explains Mighty No. 9‘s Beck running around. Following the gameplay, you’ll see the developers messsing around with a character model of Red Ash‘s Beck.
Hyde, a developer based out in Takadanobaba, Tokyo is handling the game’s development.

Red Ash: The Indelible Legend is currently funded $462,000 of its $800,000 funding goal. If funded, Episodes I, II, and III of the game will be made for PC. If a $1 million stretch goal is reached, a PlayStation 4 version will join it. Fund the game here.

What Is HYDE, Inc. And What Are They Bringing To Red Ash? July 29, 2015 . 12:30pm

Ever heard of HYDE, Inc? Chances are you’ve played a game it’s worked on.

[YT]Hy4_xRGObHw[/YT]Comcept recently revealed that it will be working alongside another Japanese development company called HYDE, Inc on Red Ash. You might be thinking: who the heck is that? It’s a good question and one that Comcept aimed to answer by interviewing HYDE’s president Yanagihara-san,as you can watch above.

As is revealed in that video interview, HYDE operates similar to how TOSE SOFTWARE has for years, which is working on lots of big Japanese games but going uncredited for the work. Yanagihara says that HYDE has worked with Atlus and Nippon Ichi on RPGs, as well as Sega on a soccer game, and is currently working on a popular MOBA for smartphones and PC.

If you look at HYDE’s business page you can see that some of the other developers and publishers that the company has worked with on various games includes Konami, Idea Factory, Disney, Gust, Marvelous, and Bandai Namco. HYDE has been doing this since 2005.

“In Japanese game development, it is still common to not earn credit for some of your work,” Yanagihara explains in the video interview. “This is because the rights belong with the publisher or maker. Also, when it comes to the player’s feelings, it’s possible that seeing an unknown company working on two similar games for two completely different companies would cause problems for the publishers.”

“We consider what is best when it comes to reassuring and making players happy… That is one of the reasons why a lot of our work goes uncredited.”

Why does HYDE want to be credited for its work on Red Ash then? In response to this question, Yanagihara explains that he wants HYDE to connect directly with Red Ash’s players so that the company can say that it has created something alongside those who enjoy their work.

Red Ash fully funded by Fuze for PS4, Xbox One, and PC
Published 4 mins ago. 71 comments.
All Kickstarter funds are now going towards new content.

Red-Ash-Fuze-Ent-Ann.jpg

Despite its Kickstarter being at just over half its funding goal with four days left, development on Red Ash: The Indelible Legend is greenlit, and not only for PC and PlayStation 4, but for Xbox One, as well.
Fuze Entertainment, a Chinese digital entertainment company, has joined Comcept as a partner on the title, and as a backer of sorts. That means the initial “KalKanon Incident” portion of the game (three episodes, eight hours total) will be developed to completion. Comcept will retain the rights to the game, as well.
As for the Kickstarter campaign, if it succeeds, all money will go towards more content. “Consider your pledge a contribution to stretch goals from here on out,” Comcept said. As for what they are, they’ll share more about that in the future.
“We know we’re in the final days of our campaign, but we’d like to ask fans to continue their support of RED ASH! Your money is going towards 100% content now, so please look forward to the revised “stretch goals”!”
If you missed it, Comcept released a playable mock-up of the game yesterday.

Red Ash Falls Short Of $800,000 Kickstarter Goal. August 3, 2015 . 12:00pm

The Red Ash Kickstarter didn’t quite meet its $800,000 goal.

Comcept’s Red Ash Kickstarter has ended, and it’s objective has not been reached. The developer was seeking $800,000 for the Mega Man Legends successor. However, it closed on August 3 with only $519,999 raised from 6,550 people.

Red Ash is still going to be made. FUZE Entertainment funded the KalKanon Incident in its entirety. Failing to meet the $800,000 goal means that Tyger won’t be a playable character, there will be no Challenge Dungeon, and the post-game epilogue starring Call and Gofer won’t be added to the game.

The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will hopefully see Red Ash released in 2017.

and some people are being well comments area oy.

Next time I hope they're more careful with the details, put them up front and not be in a rush.

Oh the anime how ever reached it's goal apparently people were more into to that cause Inafune's not really over seeing that or apart of it.....

Even though it's unfortunate that Red Ash was the subject of controversy, Inafune and everyone who's in on it really jumped the gun on the kickstarter.

1) Mighty No. 9 didn't even release yet. Plus, that game already had a LOT of controversy in and out of it's own community.

2) Doesn't he have his own company? To be fair, I heard that the cancellation of Kaio: King of Pirates was a huge financial loss. Still, I was hoping that Mighty No. 9 would start a better future for the company.

If it's any solace (except for the ones against it) Red Ash is being funded by another company.

I'm not sure what you're saying with number 2? Yeah, he has his own company, which was involved in this KS, Comcept. Not sure what that really has to do with anything, though? Just because you have a company doesn't mean you can get funding for something and can't use KS.
