MGM said at the Cannes Film Festival that Red Dawn, John Milius' 1984 movie about a group of American rebels fighting Soviet forces, is a candidate for a remake, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio's Harry Sloan and Mary Parent also confirmed that 1987's RoboCop could resurface in a new version.

I think I'm getting pretty tired of all these re-makes. Part of RoboCop's greatness stems from the time it was made in. It has this cheesed-out, unintentionally funny, formal feel to it, and I mean that in the most positive way.

Amityville Horror, Halloween, RoboCop, Star Wars; what does these films all have in common? No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot remake them.

Haha. A Red Dawn remake of all things.

It's to appeal to the demographic comprised of 30-40 year olds in their parent's basement that are forever stuck in the 80s

Ugh. Robocop was expected. But Red Dawn? Really? Who asked for that?

Robocop sould not be remade because it is simply perfect. There is nothing to add except CGI...and is that really a good reason to remake a movie? Hell no.

Boo Robocop remake!!!

Red Dawn is a whatever thing to me...but ROBOCOP IS A SACRED MOVIE TO ME!!! NO REMAKE!

I love Robocop so I'm completely down with seeing a remake :) If it sucks then it sucks and I stick to watching the original

Why don't they just remake all movies from the beginning of the previous century to present time? Just all of them, including silent films turned into short film format

Been there done that :o Plus most films from that time period created the formulas that have been remade countless times. Also to boot, many of the silent films of that time period (refering to the shorts) were remade countless times before feature length films came along. There are also many notable remakes of silent films particularly Wizard of Oz and Ben-Hur :)

But what I mean is the fact that they're just remaking everything, because of lack of new and fresh ideas. So soon they will get to 20s and 30s classics :(

YES!
I've wanted a Red Dawn remake for a long time. Though...how are they gonna do it? It's a product of fear from soviet take over...the Soviets don't have power anymore...so...

I really hope they stick with the soviets, making a movie about the soviet power returning would be awesome, but they'll probably do something lame involving terrorists :(

Or they drop the idea of a Red Dawn remake and do a movie based on the game Red Alert.

For those not familiar with the game: In 1946, Einstein goes back in time and kills Hitler in 1924 to prevent World War 2 from happening. However, this leads to the Soviets expanding their power and influence which then results in another World War

Red Alert favorite game in middle school

That was one of the 3 great games from my college days. The other 2 were Goldeneye and Half-Life

They better not tone down Robocop. 3 should have taught them that.

It should be as brutal as the original.

They could do a great update for this era with it.

The film just needs to be done extremely well and not hold back.

Why do I get the feeling that a Robocop remake won't have the theme from the original?

Robocop is among my top five movies ever, it might even be number 1. I love the movie with a white hot passion, a white hot passion. To me it's as close to the perfect movie as you can get. The music by basil Poledouris is some of the most brillaint music ever, it won't be topped. The satire and casting is pitch perfect and won't be topped. The only thing that can be topped is the SFX, that is no reason to remake a movie. Besides the movie will be a PG13 Iron Man ripoff. You really think that they are going to make an R rated SFX movie?

Just because you love something doesn't mean it can't be taken in a new direction... The Fly (50s) version compare to the The Fly (80s) version, case in point.

RoboCop? WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????

Dude, a remake doesn't hurt the original so why complain? Things happen that you don't wish to happen at times but things like these aren't going to affect you unless you let them affect you. Anyways, all I can say is very doubt a movie before it's release, you can only be excited over it's release because they want you to be, and when it comes out, it's up to you to decide whether the hype was worth it or not. If they can make this film sorta like 'Iron Man', it could succeed, if not, it won't. We'll have to just leave it at that.

Unless they go for the R-rated flick and have the best cast and crew they shouldn't bother with it.

It could be updated well but it depends on whether the studio making it wants to do that properly. If they don't I'm not going to waste my time with it.

TheJOn:

Robocop should be cross between Sin City meets Iron Man. They can go R on this and be successful. Hell, the original movie's success proves they can.
