Red Screen

ok im new to gaming but I recently got a red screen when turning on my PS3. Never got that before and I was wondering if anyone had any info on what it is, or how to fix it.

please tell me its not akin to the 360's red ring of death

If this is the screen, you need to contact Sony and get it sent in. It's still under warranty right?

If not the same screen as I posted:
Check the cables first. Then turn off the system. Then press and hold the power button on the system until it beeps twice. This is a soft reboot. Hope this helps.

this is the screen. and no its not under warranty anymore. it's an 80gb version so ive had it for quite some time.

It's a hardware issue unfortunately. You will have to have Sony fix it or find someone local to do it cheaper. Sony will charge you $150.. I don't think rebooting it will help.

i took out the hard drive and reinstalled it with no success

i'm wondering if I buy a new hard drive and install myself would that work? since i have no way to transfer the ps3 data from the busted hard drive, would it know how to format itself?
