Marshall Directing Jackman in Drive
Source: Variety

March 20, 2008

Neil Marshall has signed with Universal to direct action-thriller Drive, an adaptation of the James Sallis novel. Hugh Jackman is attached to play a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway car driver in heists.

Variety says Hossein Amini wrote the script, and Marc Platt is producing with Jackman and his Seed Productions partner John Palermo.

In the book, the stuntman's already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life.

"Hoss is a fantastic writer, and he's written three amazing car chases in the film," Marshall told the trade. "He's turned them into dramatic scenes as opposed to the usual crash, bang, wallop. I would like to be shooting it this summer."

The deal marks the second recent pact for Marshall at Universal after signing to write and direct Sacrilege, a horror story set in the Old West, at Universal-based Rogue Pictures, where Marshall wrote and directed Doomsday.

Wasn't sure if there was a thread....sounds like an interesting film.

Told ya the title would start with a "D"!!!

haha, he does have Sacrilege lined up. That will probably go through a name change :cwink:

Wasn't there a game with the same title and the same plot?

I made a thread on this but it was so long ago that it was wiped in the last purge, I thought the project was dead, I am VERY happy to see it going ahead as it sounds like it has great potential and i liked Marshal's Descent.

Thought you made something

It's a real step up for Marshall and good to see Jackman in this type of project.

He's obviously talented.....hopefully Jackman can turn this into his first BO success(not 100% what the Decent did BO wise).

This would certainly be Marshall's shot at getting an actual blockbuster hit, not sure how much The Descent did and Doomsday has sadly not been received all that well but neither will have made the kind of mainstream hit money this could.
For Jackman as well it'll be a chance to have his first - none X Men related - massive hit since swordfish did well.

I hadn't heard about Hugh being on the film. Some sites have left that out. :cmad:

Didn't the Prestige do good business? Considering it wassn't necessarily a big-budget release, and it wasn't a summer release.

And I hated Swordfish, so I'm hoping this will be better.

Another one of the promotional posters I’ve come across at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival is a promotion one-sheet for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive starring Ryan Gosling. You may recall that the project was originally set to be helmed by Neil Marshall with Hugh Jackman in the starring role. The film is now gearing up to be Refn’s next film with a tentative 2012 release date. The story follows a guy who is a stuntman by day and robbery getaway driver by night. After the jump you can find the whole promo teaser poster.

Interesting turn of events. I like both Refn and Gosling.

Carey Mulligan Joining Gosling in Drive

Source: Risky Business
August 23, 2010

Carey Mulligan (An Education) is in negotiations to join Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston in Universal's action-thriller Drive, reports Risky Business.

To be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising, Bronson), the film is based on the James Sallis novel about a Hollywood stunt driver (Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway car driver in heists. In the book, the stuntman's already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life.

Mulligan will play an ex-con's girlfriend who is taken along for the ride.

The project starts shooting around Los Angeles next month. Hossein Amini (Killshot) wrote the adapted screenplay.
