"Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks is joining Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan in action thriller Drive.

To be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson), the film also stars Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston and Oscar Isaacs.

Principal photography begins September 25 in Los Angeles for the film, from Bold Films, OddLot Entertainment and Marc Platt Productions.

Based on James Sallis' crime novel of the same name and adapted by scribe Hossein Amini, Drive revolves around a Hollywood stunt drive (Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway driver in L.A.'s criminal underworld. He finds himself a target after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend of his beautiful neighbor (Mulligan) in a job that goes dangerously awry. The only way he can keep her safe and stay alive is to do what he does best: drive.http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=69658#ixzz0z0eLWVAg

I'm really looking forward to this, and together with the excellent director and the top-notch cast, it only increased my excitement for the film.

I've been waiting for this one for ages, when does it actually come out?

Man, the clip ended when it was most tense. And yes, I do believe that's the very subtle electronic score by Cliff Martinez.

It's coming out on September 16.

If the score is as good as that clip suggests, that will be a n easy purchase for me. I hope they release a trailer soon.

From an interview with Martinez, he said that the score will be "an electronic ambient score with a fair amount of rhythm in it".

So yeah, I'm pretty excited to hear the rest of the score too. I absolutely love that the electronic music has moved over to film scoring.

Damn, that was lengthy. Anyway, can't wait for this one especially with this cast attached.

That synopsis killed some of my enthusiasm. Sounds silly.

Hopefully it's good.

New Clip

The clip introduce the characters Irene (Mulligan) and Shannon (Cranston). Pretty cool clip, I really like the music in the clip.

Damn... the cast of this movie is an epic win. Christina Hendricks and Carrie Mulligan... talk about yum yum sauce. And Cranston, Gosling, Perlman, Brooks and Isaac? This movie should be f**king awesome.

Looks great, Refn's style is evident in this and the previous clip, The Pusher trilogy and Bronson is good so looking forward to see what he got in store for us in this movie.

that first clip when they are evading the cops is awesome. seems like something out of a Michael Mann film. i'm really looking forward to this movie. has a great cast as well.

Another fantastic clip. This movie is pushing higher and higher up my must-watch list.

The first screening of Drive have just been showed at Cannes and the reactions seems to be very good.

No reviews have appear yet, but here's a few quotes taken from Twitter.

FirstShowing: "Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive - Totally frickin' awesome. Violent, but badass, great soundtrack. Ryan Gosling is the man. Loved it, new fave."

Empire: "Thumbs up for Nicolas Winding Refn's DRIVE. Very retro, but it works."

In Contention: "DRIVE (A-) I won’t lie to you: I pretty much want to have sex with this movie. Hot, clipped, nasty, beautiful. Best thing in Competition."

Rope of Silicon: "Drive was a great way to end my time here in Cannes, really enjoyed and fans of Refn are in for a treat."

Total Film: "Drive: Ryan Gosling smoulders in a throw back crime thriller, part Michael Mann's Thief, part Walter Hill's Driver, all awesome!"

And one bad response so far:

Gordon and the Whale: "DRIVE made me really, really sad; I wanted to like it so much."

So judging from the early buzz; I would say that it's pretty positive so far, and I'm very much glad to hear that.

Here's a few excerpts from more reviews.

Rope of Silicon

The signature on Drive is all Refn, from the music down to the mood. He strips his films down to the point they don't exactly hit reality, but a hyper-reality where you can at once connect to the characters, but also revel in the entertainment of its absurdity. Refn's talents know no limits, his combination of action-packed bloody mayhem tied with his patience to include appropriately lengthy moments of silence show a director in control of his environment. Add to that a continually impressive talent for casting the right people and you have a film you will want to watch over and over again.

GRADE: A+

The Playlist

Gosling’s work is fine and reserved (his first line of more than three words in the film is a threat), and the supporting cast clicks into place like gears in a fine-tuned engine. Bryan Cranston is Gosling’s friend and aide, Mulligan is wary and warm as the girl, Christina Hendricks and James Biberi have sleazy snap as low-level crooks. But it’s Albert Brooks—as a Jewish made man in L.A., an ex-movie producer, and an organized-crime manager who still proves surprisingly adept at labor—who truly impresses. Some will object to Gosling’s lack of backstory or motivation for his criminal acts, but if we had to choose between a movie that leaves these things to the imagination or over-elaborates them with the rambling sweaty eye-shifting tale-telling of a bad liar, I’ll take the former. Drive works as a great demonstration of how, when there’s true talent behind the camera, entertainment and art are not enemies but allies. [A] - James Rocchi

I'm getting more and more excited for the film with each good reviews. The film can't come soon enough.

Glad to see the reviews. Makes my excitement that much more hard to contain.

Nicolas Winding Refn won the 'Best Director' prize for Drive at the Cannes Film Festival.

I'm so f-ing excited to see the film, that I'm thinking of using the DeLorean to watch it.

hey WB/DC this guy wants to make your wonder woman movie

what the hell are you waiting for

It's pretty weird imagining Refn as the director for Wonder Woman.

However, it's very rare that you encountered on a director who wants to make a superhero film. So he was given the opportunity, I'm , definitely, will be interested to see his take on it.
