Refn Teaming with Gosling for Drive

I really like the original version of this but was interested to see what it would look like with a white jacket on black background. All props go to the original artist of course.

Wait for it...................wait for it..............wait for it..........I didn’t like this movie, not trying to be "different" or stand out from the crowd just didn’t like it. I thought it was appalling how Goslings character hardly uttered a word yet he some how managed to get this woman to fall in love with him. That just took me out of the movie as well as several other aspects. The character just felt flat couldn’t connect with him and didn’t think he was badass. Loved the soundtrack though and felt it had a very retro 80's vibe to it but apart from that it was mere and no way comparable to the hype it has received. On that note I am not like the dummy who assumed this was going to be full blown fast and furious kind of action but did expect more of an epic sort of film.

I liked how Ryan's character of Driver was disconnected and a near sociciopath.

But I think the only time we see real insight into his mind was the scene in the diner when he went crazy.

This movie is a very...visceral and distant which is the intent. But because of that it does lack mainstream appeal because it can be polarizing towards its audience.

Sociopath? Really?
He never came off moreso than almost any of Tarantino's hero's or even characters. Outside of that one scene with the boy on the couch...
I think this movie is more than it looks like but at the same time I've been hearing some reaching theories.

Anyways my friend just saw it and told me Joseph Levitt would have been interesting in he role. I tend to agree.

Driver was a near sociciopath. That's why I said 'near' because he is looking for more humanity in his life and that was with the girl and her son. But that scene in the diner showed some of his craziness.

But otherwise he was a drifter with a mysterious past. Not normal. In some ways, some of the characters that we all love are a little crazy. Dirty Harry. Of course Mad Max.

If You think about it, besides Inglorious Basteds, the main characters in QT's films are hit men, criminals, and Assassians. They're not nice people and jobs like that require some madness and apathy.

a guy who stomps on someone's face until it smashes like a pumpkin is by very definition...a sociopath - a person whose behavior is antisocial or lacks moral responsibility.

I saw this movie opening weekend and thought it was pretty bad. I don't see why critics and people were raving about this. Are they all females who are in love with Ryan Gosling?

Ryan's character barely spoke and the scenes with the girl were awful. They literally stood there and stared at each other for a least 5 mins before saying something. Then if some said something to driver he could take like 5 mins to respond. Anyway, driver can get down to and gritty but the action was just meh. The plot was predicable and kinda boring. The other actors in the movie did a decent enough job though.

Overall, I regretted seeing this in theaters and I will never watch it again.

Again, if a QT character did this it wouldn't be considered anything more than what it is. A violent act in a violent movie done by a character capable of violence. In this film it's almost something unique and truly masterful the balance between the human psyche.

I get it, if my friend stomped someone to death last Wednesday(in a situation that could have been avoided mind you) I'd consider them to have sociological problem. But if a hero or rather an anti hero does it in an ultra violent film it's an act of violence, very much provoked if you ask me. (He's on the run, he doesn't have a weapon and a trained killer showed up to kill him and a family of two. Plus he was shot at earlier).

Well I guess if you would consider Mad Max a Sociopath(in the first film pre atom war world) then sure.

No, I am a male and consider Ryan Gosling a great actor. We love it because it's a deep character film, great acting and shot beautifully. With a strong 80's feel to it.

I know when you say there were 5 minute pauses is an exaggeration, but the reason for the pauses is because they were falling with each other without having to say much, they didn't need to.

Driver seems like a very strong minded character and has very peculiar nuances, like taking his time to answer and do things his way. Which is another characteristic pointing that he may be a sociopath. He doesn't see things like most people do.

Edit: Also there's nothing "meh" about the action, it's quite riveting and raw, with a lot of tension building up to it.

Is it shown, toned down, or did the people who make the movie turn into p******?

I went to see this film thinking it had to do with a lot race driving but instead I got a violent film...and I mean violent. lol. It was good and in the end, I felt bad for the guy.

Don't think he is a sociopath or a near one. I just think he is experienced.

There are some tells that he has some experience as muscle. His use of few words, his driving, his spidey sense. The scene in the diner wasn't craziness as much as fear. Fear for the woman he was falling in love with.

You know, there are plenty of people who enjoy silence. People who can just be comfortable in the presence of another. Not everyone needs to fill every moment with crap just so there is noise.

Driver's demeanor was telling and a nice bit of character development. He learned long ago that when dealing with the unsavory, speaking can get you in trouble, speaking can get you dead.

That seems right

I love all this internet fandom this film is receiving. The term 'cult classic' is thrown around so much that it's almost meaningless, but if any film is going to last over time to find its audience, it's Drive.

It's totally shown. Just briefly, but it's a full-on, [blackout]"here's a squashed head!" shot as Driver just keeps on stomping on it.[/blackout]

Yea, it makes the curb stomp in American History X look like something from a kids cartoon.

The stomping scene actually reminded me more of the fire extinguisher scene in Irreversible.

No wonder people keep saying this movie is European.

Is Christina Hendricks screen time in the movie good? and is she ever naked in this?
