hes done nothing to impress.
Except make 2 great horror films and 1 good one.
Finding out Paris Hilton has replaced Shawnee Smith in this has ran my anticipation into the ground though.
t:The music is pretty good, save for one or two below-average songs.
Some of the shots from these clips could have been done better. But what do I know? I only could.
i didnt even know it was her in the trailer... so ill hold my judgement on her, so far so good. Also it has Paris Hilton in it.
we really did "START THIS OPERA ****"
So weeks have come and gone - we are still in the edit room! First off - some news on the editor - You all know my love for the SAW crew - but one of the family was unable to return - Kevin Greutert the editor. So my new editor HARVEY is amazing. Some of Harveys credits include "Tombstone, Scent of a Woman, Kiss the Girls" needless to say I am in great hands!
So yesterday, I am sitting in the edit room - minding my own business - and suddenly someone walks in to introduce themselves... Guess who it was? Go on, guess, seriously? REPOSSESSION MAMBO!!!! That's right - that 'other' REPO movie moved in NEXT DOOR to us... Not down the hall... not a floor below - but RIGHT NEXT TO US!!!
On any other film I would be worried - but not with this film... and not with them... For those of you who have seen the stage show - you know that NOTHING else is out there like this... or us... So what - another Repossession movie is in production - - who cares? My question to them is to they have BILL MOSELEY dancing around singing while he is stabbing people in the throat? I think not!!! This is unlike anything I have ever seen - and the more of the edit I see - the harder time I am having comparing it to ANYTHING?
The movie is looking and sounding amazing!!!! I am also excited by our use of mixed media. We shot the movie on HD - those familiar with the HD cameras we shot on the Genesis - but on top of that - we have 16mm - and ANIMATION - which is looking insane!
Yesterday I got to peek at some of our visual effects... As if I couldn't be any happier - this comes along and my excitement skyrockets!
Hopefully soon I release some music to the world - I think people are still thrown off - thinking we are a musical - or an opera - or some broadway like show.
Trust me... Wait... We are really none of the above... The truth is we are not like anything...

Hey all!!! Long time no talk!!! It has been all sorts of crazy... But long story short - I have been spending every waking minute on REPO... This is by far the most complex thing I have ever done - but also the most rewarding... Every day I come to edit room - I am reminded how cool and different this project is... It truly is the most original thing I have ever been involved with...
Next week I have to show the movie to the all the STUDIO HEADS - - I pray to GOD they get this movie - because it truly is out there... It seems a lot of movies these days are cookie cutter - and 'the same'. There is a reason for that... Because they are a proven formula... Aint nothing formulaic about this movie...
This morning I woke up and saw that ARROW IN THE HEAD listed us as the number 1 most anticipated horror film of '08. I was so taken aback - at times I think no one has even heard of REPO - then I see this - and I flip out...
So start spreading the word now - - tell your friends... **** - call the studio and tell them how excited you are... It's time for something different - and this is it!
Many of you recently have been asking what are the origins of REPO Where did we start How did we start Especially now with the onslaught of MAMBO press some have been asking when exactly did REPO OPERA begin this madness.. Well - - here ya go a time line of sorts.
Last week I was cleaning my computer out and found an old flyer from an old stage show...
* 1998 Darren Smith & Terrance Zdunich formed The Gallery and began writing and
performing theatrical rock music in the form of ten-minute operas.
* 1999 One of the 10 minute operas that came out of the Gallery was called "The
Necro-merchant's Debt" (which is a song about a Graverobber and a Organ Repo
Man) They decided to expand their vision into a full-length theatrical format. Thus
began REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA.
* 2000, 'The Gallery' opens a website which described all of the 10 minute operas
(tenminuteopera.com) including NECROMERCHANT'S DEBT.
* June 19, 2000 they release A Collection of ten minute operas: including THE
NECROMERCHANT'S DEBT PAu 2-503-619.
* Music composition and the libretto was written in 2000 - 2001 for REPO! The Genetic
Opera.
* 2001, October 1st REPO! was performed at CIA night club in North Hollywood.
* 2001 - 2002 It went on to perform at other venues such as THE GIG in Los Angeles,
THE COCONUT TEASER in Hollywood, THE JOINT in West LA.
* 2002, Smith & Zdunich self-produced their musical at Hollywood's John Raitt Theatre,
the stage play was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.
* 2004 REPO! was again performed at the SplitID Theatre in W. Hollywood.
* 2005 REPO! moved to New York and the off-broadway stage at the Wings Theatre
* 2006, REPO!'s was turned into 12-minute short film used to pitch.
* 2007, REPO! The SHORT was screened in Beverly Hills to studio exec's.
* 2007, REPO! was green-lit by Twisted Pictures.
The stage show has been produced FOUR times over the past six years..
This looks like the ******ed cousin of "Sweeney Todd" and "Rocky Horror". And Paris Hilton's in it? Man, this reeks of "Direct-to-DVD".

This morning was the single most exciting part of the REPO post thus far... THE DI color grading for the film... I was finally able to dial in the look I want for REPO... There is a hyper stylized look I am trying to accomplish - and this morning I SAW it come to life!
So - I need to address why I haven't been updating on REPO for a while - and overall the STATUS of where we are at...
Last week I spoke with bloody-disgusting.com about the status of repo... Here is what was said...
"Repo - has turned out to be a MUCH bigger process than anyone first thought.... We have over 50 songs - on top of that, numerous jingles ? and score pieces ... Its taken a long time to compose - master, and mix. Also the visual effect process is growing in size - I started off having a vision of a couple visual effects here and there... Well lets cut to three months later - where a couple visual effects has turned into over 200 visual effects... Including set extensions, CGI elements, etc. Also, something I am excited about ? is the animation ? we have quite a bit of animation in the movie ? drawn by none other than TERRANCE ZDUNICH (who also plays one of the leads GRAVEROBBER and the writer) he couldn?t begin drawing until the movie was locked ? as a lot of what we was drawing was based on completed visual effects, etc
Long and short ? we are speeding along at a rapid pace trying to get this movie done, ? but, at the same time ?this is a movie that I have been fighting to get made for what seems like forever I want to do it right... This is my passion project ? and when it goes out to the world ? I want to be proud ?and not ?wish?, wish I had done this, wish I had shot that.
Thank God I have producers who have been so supportive and have let me take the time I need to finesse this film."
So hope that clears some stuff up... This film has become my life... my blood and tears going into it... I need to make sure EVERYTHING is not just right -- BUT PERFECT!!!!
Well, enough talking - back to coloring the movie!!!
More soon!
I am so excited to see people really getting behind this movie!
As all of you know - it hasn't been an easy battle getting REPO made... Nor was it easy recording the sound track - or shooting the movie!!!
So why would now be any easier in post!
I just left Los Angeles last night - and headed back to Toronto to finish the film... We begin the final color correct this week - add in all the visual effects - and more importantly start the FINAL sound mix.
So, to fill everyone in - while in Los Angeles, we had various screenings for producers, cast members - test screenings, etc...
About seven critics, snuck in or talked their way into the screenings. Some of these critics were avid SAW haters, which terrified me. I have no doubt this is a movie that will divide people.
The reviews that came back were ultra positive!!! I have linked a couple.
As I have stated numerous times - I have been in love with this movie since the moment I read the stage play some six years ago. But to be able to start showing the movie and hearing other POSITIVE reviews makes all of this mean something!
I have a lot of exciting news that will be breaking in the upcoming weeks... INCLUDING the new - and improved REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA website! AND - I think it's finally time you all start hearing the music - so be on the lookout for REPO songs!
