Not sure if there's a thread for this already or not (I did a search and couldn't find one).

"Hellraiser" remake loses steam:

It was being developed by the same guy who directed the "Crank" movies and the new "Ghost Rider" sequel too. But now it seems like it's in development hell (haha).

Conceptual designs for the cenobites:

They aren't bad, just too "alien" and "species"-y. Maybe they're trying to Thor-ize it. You know, remove the supernatural elements and try and explain that the cenobites are actually from space in a different dimension or some **** and the puzzle box is actually alien technology used to open a worm hole.

No, but when has that ever stopped Hollywood?

Hollywood needs to come up with original ideas.I wonder if they know how.

They took all the originality they had left behind the shed and shot it.

I think it could use a reboot.

The first couple flicks were so good, then they just got into the cheesy slasher low budget franchise ...then direct to DVD BS.

The Franchise has lost steam.

When taken seriously, Hellraiser can be terrifying..It really fits into the modern concepts of gore/pleasure/violence that are actually more prevelant now than say 1988 or so.

Do we really NEED someone to come into a topic for a reboot and ask if we NEED said reboot?
Considering even Hollywood has dropped the concept it's an acceptable question I think.

Hellraiser was a good movie but it subsequently went downhill as the sequels piled up. I've seen them all I think (there are so many it's hard to know) but rebooting it especially without Clive Barker's involvement doesn't sound right to me.

Doubt it ! That was 20 years ago!

There was that comic Jihad, which had the Cenobites VS Midianites which was pretty cool.

I thought they had a few scripts for the Nightbreed sequel that fell through.

Seriously, I wouldn't mind if someone took a crack at HELLRAISER other than Clive Barker.

I'd think that there are a lot of talented guys who would like a shot at the reboot.

Sometimes these reboots work better under new light.

"Those new designs are CRAP!"

If the movie had aged badly or a new generation didn't understand the culture (such as lingo or time period) I could understand. It would make sense. Here, it just smacks as another crappy cash grab for what is a perfectly fine movie.

I think it's just bad management of whoever has the property.

Hollywood knows what original ideas are. They're just too afraid to go forward with them, because they're so expensive.

Taking risks in Hollywood usually involves making something new, which isn't always what the general public wants to see. We're too comfortable with what we already have. Taking too many risks without anything to show for it equals a large waste of money.

And Hollywood isn't willing to afford losing that much money just to take risks.

First of all, I only count the two first movies to be in canon so to speak. From 3 and later, it had just become random slasher flicks instead of the gothic horror the first two were.
I urge everyone to just see these two and then pick up the real sequel, a comic written by Barker himself from this year: Pursuit of the Flesh.

Secondly, I actally like these designs! Pinheads phallus-like-collar sort of fits into his character I think.

I'm still waiting for The Scarlet Gospels to be released.

I think the costumes need to play up the Pleasure/Pain aspect more.

This is fundamental to the Cenobites.

Bloodlines was lousy, but it was , at least, bold. I mean pinhead in space... who figured. I'd have said it was dumb, except Event Horizen would have been a legendary Hellraiser flick if it had been the Cenobites at the end.

I never wanted too much insight into the puzzle box, really it's just scarier that way..the whole toymaker aspect was dumb.

A lot of those later movies were just generic low budget horror movies that added the Hellraiser properties at a later date...so the studio would retain the rights.

The 2nd one creeped me out more, that freakin bloody mattress...i never looked at an old gross mattress the same. The creepy totem pole was a nightmare! That really disappeared from the later films.

I saw the 2nd before the 1st, so i can say it effected me more. I think i was like 12 or 13 and was not supposed to be watching it.

This is one of the scariest horror movies i ever saw as a kid. Once again Hollywood is going to screw up a perfectly good franchise as they did with Nightmare on Elm Street and Hallowen. Are they truly out of original ideas over there?

Because the Hellraiser franchise was going so strong before this reboot. :oldrazz:

There are tons of original properties, they just aren't as high-profile because they aren't based on things people know about.
