Repo! The Genetic Opera

I think that in a musical, the songs should at least have some relevance to the plot. The strange Paris **** fest in the alley and the raging 'I wish I were Lindsay Lohan' ''Rockout" Alex Vega has nearly made me want to turn off the movie

That was the best part! It was so random and didn't fit the rest of the movie. Her dad looked as confused as I was. :woot:

See, I was going to see this but then I listened to the soundtrack and said "Nevermind. . ."

Paris' character was a junkie scalpel ****. She doesnt actually pay Grave Robber for Zydrate with money but with...let's say her other ASSets. This would have been made more clear if the song "Come Up And Try My New Parts" had been left in. She was a strung out ****e who needed a hit.

And Seventeen was a fantasy, and her doing some standard teenage rebellion against her father, seeing that freedom was almost within her grasp, and that he had been lying to her and keeping her from it.

If you weren't able to connect those to the plot, then maybe you shouldn't be watching movies at all, as you don't seem bright enough to even be able to figure out the simplest things.

How the hell did they manage to get Sarah Brightman in this flick?

I really liked this movie. Paris Hilton as a gothic **** bag, I actually liked her like that, rather than just a stuck up **** bag.

The musical numbers were good and I liked the set pieces. Bill Moseley is of course just odd as hell.

Hilton was actually great in this. A little self parody never hurts. And yeah, Mosely is always great. I really liked Ogre as Pavi too, and he looked creepy as hell with his stolen faces.

Actually, my minor is film studies. And I get all A's  You just have bad taste in movies  Maybe take a few university level film courses and you'll be able to better understand what makes a movie good.

Trying to demean me unfortunately doesn't change that.

Also, I think that the general idea of the movie (Organs being sold and re-claimed) is genius.

However, I think that as a musical it fails completely. Telling me I 'can't figure it out' is ludicrous. I completely understood every part of the movie, and it was poorly written, poorly filmed, and poorly executed.

Surprise surprise, I'm in film school too, and guess what? IT'S MY MAJOR! See, I can play this whole "I'm better at movies than you and my opinion counts more than yours cause I GO TO SCHOOL!" game too. Not that my major or your minor mean anything, when it comes down to the fact that you couldn't understand two plot threads that were nearly spelled out for you, and didn't understand what either of them had to do with the rest of the movie. I know people who get all A's who are dumb as a f**king post.

Yes, getting good grades makes you stupid? That sounds like something someone with bad grades says to make themselves feel better.

I'm sorry, but a movie that relies heavily on a drawn comic frame and a ridiculous number of flashbacks JUST ISN'T WELL MADE. Considering that some of the flashbacks were used MORE THEN ONCE? It was a lame excuse not to further the plot with the actual scenes or songs.

Plus, both of our educations aside, maybe we just have completely different tastes in movies. But I'm sorry, a movie with someone singing "I'm the smartest, and the toughest, I will find a hole and **** it"? I cannot respect or take this movie seriously.

I have my opinion, and arguing with you isn't going to change that. I assume it's the same with you, so lets just leave it at that.

Just wanted to jump in on this point. Getting good grades doesn't make you stupid. I don't think that anybody would say that. There are people who are able to get good grades and recite book knowledge but when it comes to application of said knowledge just flat out fail.

i don't think the movie is great but i definately enjoyed it . particularly the graverobber scenes.

As much as I didn't like the movie itself, man did I love that graverobber. He was fantastic. Kind of reminded me of Antonio Bandaras in Evita.

That's true enough. I have a friend in Grad school and she has zero street smarts. However, I have never had that said about me (other then implied by Joker in this thread because I don't like this one particular movie) so I'd say it's not exactly relevant.

Like you mentioned, perhaps your taste in movies simply isn't a match for this movie. It's certainly not one of those producer-driven movies where each and every facet is carefully molded to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Repo is certainl a niche movie.

Another mistake was to try taking the movie seriously. It's not that kind of movie. The makers weren't trying to make you reevaluate your life, make bold political commentary or wow you with special effects. They're just to trying to make you laugh while thinking "OMG! Did they just do that?" in shock.

That may be true. I tend to like movies that are more character driven. I could see this movie become a cult hit, but it's not for me. And to be honest I really can't see how anyone could be 'wowed' by it. It was just too weakly done/shot/executed. Even Rocky Horror Picture Show didn't rely on flashbacks to drive the plot, and it's well known for shocking people and being a huge cult hit. (And I love Rocky)

And you're a film student? Ok. :hehe:

Oh please, show us the way, tell us what movies we should see.
It's too dark to see, since you are enrolled in a film making program. :whatever:

I am a film student. If you want to see some good movies see: Slumdog Millionaire, Bicycle Thieves, Wall-E, The Departed.... to start.

I'm not saying that you don't have the right to enjoy it, I'm just saying that I don't understand how you could, because I didn't, and nor did anyone I know.

All the above movies I've had numerous Profs say are excellent films. I doubt any of my Professors or fellow students (at my University, at least) would say the same about Repo!

You can feel free to like it though, all movies have their own group of fans. That doesn't make them good movies though.

Hmm,how ironic. :hehe:

this movie would have been 10x better with ouy the singing. that being said... great movie... (ignoring the horrendous unneeded music)

Alright, so what makes a good movie? I thought it was a matter of opinion, much like music, but apparently there's a criteria.
