I think it can just be another avenue to meet people. They aren't necessarily shy, they just want another option. One of my friends met his girlfriend online, he never had a problem meeting a girl in a bar, but just decided to try that out as well.
Also the, you don't know who you're really talking to thing doesn't work. You don't really know who you're talking to at a bar either, it's just as easy to lie over the computer as it is in person.
Sure they canI know . . . but at least they can't lie about being a fatty![]()
Sure they can

delayed response, I know . . . but . . .
if you're gonna put all the work in talking to a girl online, it's a little different than a one-night stand . . . you'll be pressed to talk to them later at some point . . .
if I ever were to hook up w/ someone online, I'd make sure I'd seen some pics first . . .
anyway, my theory is that internet people are more likely to hook up (especially concerning women) because you've already 'broken the ice', and they know you're not just after sex . . .
That would be the only pro to talking to someone on the net. You're being yourself for the most part, and not trying to bull**** your way into their good graces. Though some people even do that online, but that's beyond any help we could give.
Oh, lol. Probably not.
