"We put in some serious time playing various maps and modes in multiplayer, and despite our constant deaths at the hands of Insomniac's seasoned testers we had a blast. Resistance should offer PS3's Flagship online Multiplayer experience at launch. Of course, you can also play with friends offline via split-screen deathmatch,or partner up and play, co-op through the entire single player game(this can only be done offline).

Online matches are where the real action is, though where as many as 40 players can pack the battlefield(a recent eight-player improvement over the 32-player support announced at E3) We tried standard deathmatch in a small, hilly ice area, and massive 40-player "MELTDOWN" campaigns in a huge jungle-type enviroment with wooden bridges and platforms in the trees, "Ewok Village"- style.

Meltdown is an extension of another mode called "Node," in which two teams race to take over as many nodes as possible. Nodes are large chambers that contain several cylinders, you can re-configure the nodes for your team. Once you control a node, you can choose to re-spawn there after you die, adding strategy to the order in which your team goes after them. Meltdowns adds the twist that these nodes are actually coolants for each team's base, so by taking them over, you're overheating the enemy's headquaters. At certain heat levels a base's defenses will temporarily go down, allowing the opposing team to get inside and deal major damage. "

Node sounds just like Team Killcount in PDZ :o

DON'T YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PROVEN ONLINE PLATFORM TO WORK WITH, BEFORE YOU CAN REALLY SAY HOW MANY PLAYERS YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SUPPORT?

PRETTY MUCH EVERY DEVELOPER IMAGINABLE HAS TRIED TO DO THE 25+ PLAYERS ONLINE, BUT NOBODY HAS REALLY PULLED IT OFF. 'BLACK HAWK DOWN' WAS GOING TO ATTEMPT 50, THEN DROPPED IT TO 32..........BUT NOBODY PLAYED THE GAME, BECAUSE IT SUCKED ASS. :down:o

Not having an online networked platform never hurt online games in the past.

Node does sound like that PDZ mode a bit. Which in and of itself sounds a lot like the multiplayer modes from other FPS games. You know, the one where you go to individual spots and capture the fort and can spawn there when you die, and the object is to capture all the forts and not lose your main fort. It's an UT game mode or something.

Now all it needs is less generic story, level and art design, a cheaper console thats actually worth it and more than ten people to buy it, and it's set

Having a generic story with generic art and level design didn't stop certain people from proclaiming that a PC port of a WWII game was 'next gen' when it arrived on their system of choice.

PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE NOT REFERRING TO 'COD2'. THAT WASN'T A "PORT".......IT WAS DEVELOPED AND RELEASED SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR PC AND '360'. :o

And the 360 version was the step child, but you're getting off topic.

I thought COD was ok...but I was pretty fed up of WW2 games at that point.

I've like NEVER played a WWII game, so I'm fairly keen to try one and some point.

I guess Resistance sort of is, but it's really not, but it's close enough. I mean it's plausible that Hitler made a super mutant race or something to fight in the war... even though WWII suposedly never happened in Resistance. :o :o :o

This game might end up being good, who knows. It will have to overcome the sucking of Insomniac though!

LOL.....HARDLY. I'LL WAGER IT'S PLAYED MORE ONLINE, BY MORE PEOPLE, THAN ANY OF THE PC 'COD' GAMES.......... WHICH IS THE TOPIC. BUT 40 PLAYERS WOULD BE POINTLESS, AND WOULD BE LAGGY AS F***.

I liked ww2 games at first but then they kept coming and coming. cod games are fine, dont get me wrong, and cod2 was a good game, but i couldnt shake the feeling i have played the same game before.

I dont mind the premis of the game (alien invasion and whatnot) i just dont see why it had to be ww2. we have had moh (all of them), coming up to 3 call of dutys, the outfit, and tonnes more. if it was something different (like prey's alien bio sphere for example) i wouldnt rag on it so much.

It looks like jungle is going to be the next sewer/ww2/ice planet / lavel level though, which is a shame because I quite enjoyed jungle set games...so I hope it isnt too overexposed.

1) That doesn't matter at all. But if you like jumping from the semantics of port and what was technically the lead platform to who plays which version more as some bar of what makes either version the stepchild during development, which is a totally stupid jump to make, go ahead.

WHICH IS THE TOPIC

2) Um, no. See, me bringing up CoD2 and its attributes was a POR to Resistance, now you want to get into an arguement over what qualifies port because I used that word. That has nothing do to with Resistance, and then when I say that the 360 version was probably the stepchild since the PC was probably the lead platform for development, you think that who plays it more is suddenly a measure of which version was the result of code dumping and tweaking during development (EI: They probably ported the code as they were working on the PC version, and adapted it to the 360, there's no trace of CoDII digging deep into the 360 hardware at all).

Take a bow.

BUT 40 PLAYERS WOULD BE POINTLESS

3) Whoa you're trying to get back on topic, ok. 40 Players would be pointless? How can you say something like that without knowing their levels and how they are designed? How the game is balanced?

Oh that's right you can't.

AND WOULD BE LAGGY AS F***.

Depends on the servers and what set up they have going, their code, etc. 42 player counterstrike runs smoothly. Who knows until the thing is out or we see more of it.

I have to agree with Zenien that 40 could easily work.
Counterstrike can run smoothly, and 32 players in PDZ almost always seems lag-free. It's a shame that Star Wars Battlefront II can't even handle 2 people online :down

40 players? The only thing that can result in is lag.

I'M NOT "JUMPING" FROM ANYTHING 'Z'.........IT'S SIMPLY NOT A "PORT". OBVIOUSLY, SINCE 'MS' HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT PC SOFTWARE, THEIR CONSOLES/GAMES WOULD BE PC-CENTRIC......THAT'S NO SECRET, NOR THE ISSUE. THE FACT IS, THIS GAME WAS BEING BUILT, FROM INCEPTION, FOR BOTH PLATFORMS......WHICH CODE WAS FINISHED FIRST IS IRRELEVANT. SINCE THE '360' IS BASICALLY A CUSTOM PC GAMING RIG, MINUS THE OTHER PC FUNCTIONS, IT ONLY MAKES SENSE TO BASE THE SOFTWARE ON PC ARCHITECTURE. BOTTOM LINE IS, IF THIS WERE A "PORT", IT WOULDN'T HAVE COME OUT AT THE SAME TIME; IT WAS SIMPLY A DUAL-PLATFORM RELEASE.

AND NO, WE DON'T KNOW FOR CERTAIN.......WHICH BRINGS US BACK TO MY ORIGINAL POINT. BUT, BASED ON OTHER DEVELOPER'S PAST FAILURES, I THINK IT'S A BIT LOFTY AND UNREALISTIC IS ALL. AGAIN, IT'S NOT LIKE WE HAVEN'T HEARD THESE CLAIMS BEFORE, ONLY TO SEE THEM FALL SHORT. :o

GENERIC LEVEL DESIGN?

WHAT THE ****?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the bloody ****?

PDZ will do 50.

HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED IT WITH THAT MANY? I MEAN, I KNOW IT "SUPPORTS" UP TO 50, BUT HAS IT BEEN CONSISTENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY DONE?

IGNORE HER........SHE OBVIOUSLY HASN'T PLAYED IT. :down:o

'Z', THE LEVEL DESIGNS......PARTICULARLY FOR MULTIPLAYER.......ARE SECOND TO NONE. PERIOD. ALL OF THE NEW MAPS ARE F***ING BRILLIANT. STOP SAYING S**T JUST TO GET A REACTION OUT OF 'HF'.

It doesn't allow 50, it does 32

WELL, 'WHF' IS PROBABLY BASING THAT OFF OF WHAT WAS ANNOUNCED EARLY ON.........WHICH WAS EXACTLY MY POINT, EARLIER. THERE'S A REASON THE DROPPED SUPPORT FOR THE ADDITIONAL 18 PLAYERS. :o

THWIP, nearly everyone in this thread is out of your league, just go home. You're a joke, and a terribly dense one at that.

Nice to see someone finally bit, how does anyone know the level design in Resistance is generic.

and you mean TCP, not HF.

Anyway, provided THWIP is done missing the point for the 600th time. The one difference in this multiplayer scenario is that Insomniac said 32 player multiplayer and then increased the number according to the magazine.
