Rihanna's first single "Work" (featuring Drake) from her latest album called "Anti" (album released on January 28, 2016) has just topped the US Billboard charts making it her 14th #1 single, just enough to beat Michael Jackson's record of 13 #1s.

Rihanna still has two more musicians to beat as Mariah Carey has a total of 18 #1 singles and The Beatles with 20 #1 singles.

Considering Rihanna's age (Bdate: 02/20/1988) and popularity, it is very much possible that she can beat Mariah Carey and The Beatles with most #1s in the future. Who would have thought that a certain girl from Barbados would someday become one of the most popular musicians in the whole wide world. :)

Here's the top 10 musicians with the most #1 singles in the US Billboard charts.

The Beatles = 20

Mariah Carey = 18

Rihanna = 14

Michael Jackson = 13

Madonna = 12

The Supremes = 12

Whitney Houston = 11

Janet Jackson = 10

Stevie Wonder = 10

Does music streaming count nowdays? It might be a lot easier because of that and kind of unfair to old artits/bands.

This doesn't really count for me, music is in terrible condition these days and her music cannot compare to the artists listed above. She just happens to be the golden turd out of the ol porcelain bowl of other terrible acts.

How many of her number ones are just her vs. her collaborations with other artists?

ETA: Elvis Presley also has 18 #1 hits. Wonder why he's missing.

OH. I forgot about Elvis. Sorry but yeah. Elvis has 18 #1s too.

You can hardly compare two different eras. Music industry wasn't the same back then. While there are now better channels to spread the music to people (which means more hits and more #1), I don't think Thriller's sales record will ever be beaten. People prefer Youtube and streaming platforms now.

I hate her new song. Can you even call it a song?

Drake sounds like he just ****ing gave up about halfway through it.

Considering the amount of people who can get reached by the different sources these days it's no surprise that #1's are much easier to get. If you had the Beatles and MJ working on their best material today as opposed to decades ago when they were big then you'd see them constantly filling the top 10 year in and out with dozens of #1's to their names within the decade and probably 70-80 by the end of their careers.

It reminds me of a comment I saw on youtube once. Someone was whining about how everyone posting thought it was so great a song (I forget which one funny enough) and since it only had a few million views despite being from a huge band back in the day so it can't have been that great. It had come out in the early to mid 90's. Everyone had heard it so they only came back to listen to it out of nostalgia. Meanwhile back when it was released it probably had a few hundred million more plays than it showed on YT now.

no way, not with that bandwidth and dial up

:rimshot:

The eras aren't really comparable but still a great achievement for Rihanna.

To your point, songs like "Here Comes The Sun" and "In My Life" weren't even official singles during that time period. They would've definitely been smash hits under the current conditions.

Michael Jackson used to release a new album every 5 years or so. Rihanna seems to release a new album every 5 months. That's the difference
