Rob Zombie to resurrect The Munsters!

I rewatched that trailer and got mad all over again. I don’t know about you guys but I have fond memories of watching reruns of The Munsters as a kid, it has a special place in my heart.

And Rob Zombie just came and pissed all over those memories. Lol.
Dude, me too. I loved it when I was a kid and Herman busting through the front door in the opening credits will never not be funny to me. I even thought it was better than the Addams Family if we're talking that Coke/Pepsi rivalry of the spooky sitcoms of the '60s. That being said, the '90s Addams Family movies with Raul Julia and Christopher Lloyd are classics and obviously wipe the floor with whatever the hell Zombie's done here. :o

The Munsters was one of my favorites as a kid. That first teaser was great and what I thought we would be getting. I get dizzy thinking about why the marketing would be such a blatant misdirect.

My expectations were always pretty low once I saw Zombie was directing. I called it from the beginning.

But something tells me this is going to be more like an indie project considering his wife is playing Lily (because of course she is :whatever:) and Jeff Daniel Phillips is playing Herman. Movie stars they ain't.

He might be trying to emulate the low-budget look of the original show.

You can make sets that look like sets. A lot of what he is doing reminds of James Nguyen. Hell it reminds me of quite a few of the super cheap films I've watched on Rifftrax.

Looks worse than I could have possibly imagined. And my expectations were already in the cellar.

But while I expected it to be poorly written and acted, I didn’t expect it to look like a YouTube video that someone slapped together in an afternoon. I’m shocked at how amateurish this looks. I’ve seen used car dealer commercials that looked more professional.

Really feeling like this movie is cosmic retribution for NBC Universal not letting Bryan Fuller’s take go anywhere.

That **** would’ve killed, even if I wasn’t fully behind some of the casting.

I think when this gets released, there is a very good chance they do the whole movie black and white. It wouldn't FIX the cheap look of the movie, but it would help mask it a little and could at least fool people into nostalgia.

At least, that is what I would do if I was a Producer who was handed this....mess

Well, Wednesday already looks like the clear winner between the two adaptations. Which, Munsters revivals always turn out bad by comparison to what is done with The Addams Family property.

It's a shame Mockingbird Lane didn't happen. The pilot that Bryan Singer directed looked more cinematic than whatever this is.

Is this movie for theaters or streaming?

I haven't looked into this myself, but I have heard it referred to as both straight to streaming and day and date. So regardless, it will be on Peacock opening day

I watched a retrospective review of one of the Munsters made-for-TV movies in the '90s on Youtube that commented on the fact that because The Addams Family is based on a comic strip there's more room for actors to interpret those characters in different ways compared to The Munsters where they originated with the iconic portrayals on the show by the original actors that can never really be replicated. This is the reason why The Addams Family has had more mainstream success when it comes to adaptations, which I 100% agree with. John Astin and Raul Julia both played iconic portrayals of Gomez Addams. Both interpretations are very different and yet they still feel true to the character. By comparison, if anyone playing Herman Munster isn't doing a Fred Gwynne impression, most people won't give it the time of day.

The Addams Family show is pretty iconic with the portrayal of Gomez and Morticia from the tv show, yet Julia and Huston made it their own. This Munsters movie is just cheap with bad actors.

Is this supposed to look like a cheap TV movie that looks and sounds like it was made by a local film crew? If so, maybe that's the point like the original show and this is supposed to be the modern equivalent of it? I don't know if that necessarily translates as well. Especially in color. Judging by Zombie's past movies on a technical level, I can't imagine this was unintentional. Just looks like it might be a poorly executed version of that.

I was both hesitant and intrigued when I heard Rob Zombie was doing a Munsters movie, but I kept an open mind

But holy hell! WTF is up with that trailer? Looks like a straight up cheap student/fan made film. The acting, sceneries, costumes, the cinematography, etc. just looks so damn amateurish

I think Zombie might be done after this. Which is a very slight shame to me because I always hoped he would do some meat and potatoes action film at some point. I do like House of a Thousand Corpses and The Devil's Rejects so he's done some good work....Oh well.

This reminds me of those "fake" movies within movies, like how Scream has Stab. (Only this seems worse) That's the only way I could justify the cheap look... but that's probably not the case here.

Some people are hoping that this is a bait and switch, and it turns out that the movie is actually R-rated horror... but there's no way they can do that since they gave it a PG-rating already. (And people would sue the studio)

Yeah, what floors me the most is that, if you watch The Devil’s Rejects… even if you can’t stomach the subject matter and some of the performances, it’s a GREAT looking horror film. The cinematography in it is fantastic. I remember watching it in theaters and thinking Zombie had a bright future ahead as a director. Boy, was I wrong. His Halloween movies were trash and this looks like something from a public access TV station.

Going to Netflix. It’s funny how he thinks his movie looks half as good as the Wednesday show

Let's not Jesus Christ this has been a wild ride. I admit I chose optimism when this was announced because he's at least able to competently put a movie together. Never did I imagine in 2022, a major studio would give a notable filmmaker $40m to take an IP and just...do this with it.

Now it's just going to dump to Netflix like that's been the plan all along.
