Robert Downey Jr. Is Doom - "Same task, new mask"

Let's get nuts. Chris Evans comes back as Annihilus.

Evans could be a Red Skull-ified version of him; Ruafflo can be Maestro; Johansson can be Iron Maiden…

Maybe since Hemsworth is still doing Thor, Iron Doom’s resident Asgardian will be Loki Odinson

Doom is a character that should have been built up over the course of several movies. Shoving him into two Avengers movie in which he has to share screentime with god knows how many other superhero characters (and most likely variants as well) and calling it a day is not enough time to establish Doom imo.

Also I can tell you right now, that idea of yours is 100% unlikely to happen. RDJ is the defacto MCU Doom, variant or not.
I like comics Kang and wanted all this to be leading to his big story while Doom started cooking in the background ahead of a multi-phase presence. I would have been fine with him existing as a F4 and MCU villain in the background for a good while before becoming a bigger threat in a F4 sequel and then an uber threat in an Endgame/Secret Wars level event. An overall presence across multiple phases. This way doesn’t really match my ideals for either Kang (obviously) or Doom.

I just realized we're probably not going to see an incursion now with Kang swapped out...

See, now this I would have liked. But that's not what we're getting and Feige is desperate to regain good will at any cost. Which is ironic because audiences have been responding well to Deadpool & Wolverine.

Hypothetically, if Majors hadn't done anything wrong and they decided to do Doomsday instead of Kang Dynasty, the very idea of them replacing a title character played by a black actor in favor of Dr. Doom would have been a PR s***storm for them. It's exactly what happened anyway but because Majors is an abuser they were able to wipe the slate with little to no resistance.

What doomed Kang was the fact that Majors turned out to be an abuser and Quantumania flopped. If only one of those things had happened then they may have carried on with the character.

Doom quipping would be the last straw in a long line of last straws. Like, I could see people walking out of theater if that were to happen. :funny:

RDJ bringing this energy to Doom:

As much as I think Majors' crime factored a lot into this decision, I still believe Quantumania and how that movie mishandled Kang is the main reason why Feige swerved so jarringly hard here. Any kind of intrigue the Loki series built around Kang and his variants was utterly demolished by that movie.

They really thought putting in your big bad in Ant-Man where he gets defeated by him was a smart move...

So here's another thing I'm sad about. I always dreamed of a crossover between T'Challa, Namor, Black Bolt and Doom. Those characters work great together as rivals and uneasy allies. But now we're never getting that. T'Challa is dead, Doom will be around for only two movies, Marvel will probably not hire Tenoch Huerta again after the rape allegations and who knows if the Inhumans will ever see the light of day.

Heck, that Illuminati universe had Ultron bots, so it would definitely would be an organic continuation if the Stark from that world was Superior Iron Man and became an antagonist. Granted, not the main villain of this two-parter since I still would have prefered a recasted Kang.

As it is, Feige dropped the ball big time, but folks are eating it up and both Avengers flicks will more than likely make bank, so it is what it is unfortunately.
The fact that this is not the route they are going is mind-bogling dumb. They could be naturally building up the seeds from MoM and give more purpose to Earth 838 and the Incursions. Make the plot of Avengers 5 that the Incursions are destorying the multiverse and the only universes left are 616 and 838. Since the Illuminati was destroyed, this Stark would dive more to the dark side and become obessive to the point we will being willingly to destroy a whole other Universe to save his own. Plus because it would be a variant Stark, you don't have to build him up that much because audiences are familiar with who Stark is. And if RDJ wanted to stretch his acting abilities, he can play him completely opposite of normal Stark and it wouldn't matter cause he's a variant.

This^ all they see and all that maters.
Whether it makes sense or not, story-wise in a multiverse how much sense does it have to make? It certainly allows for them to pull anything out their @$$.
As far as corporate-money-wise; it certainly makes sense for a studio desperately trying to hang on to a franchise, and it's ticket buying drones, to bring back the guy they will mindlessly cheer for, no mater if it makes sense or not.

So welcome to a universe where we get a sassy Dr. Doom, in high heals, and likely a minor beauty-scar, which makes him a tortured mess. :funny:

I actually like that take on Doom.

Tweet was trending. As I mentioned in another thread, I had no idea about this. Guess things come full circle.

Still not happy, though.

Heck, all the OG Avengers are coming back anyway. So had this been like Superior Iron Man, Hydra Cap, Thor calling himself Ragnarok, Natasha as Madame Viper working with Hydra Cap, Maestro, and whatever you call evil Hawkeye and call that Dark Avengers, that would have been better!

I wouldn't have loved Superior Iron Man as the ultimate bad guy. But it's better than RDJ being DOCTOR FRIGGING DOOM!!!!
It's certaintly not my first, second or third pick either. But if Marvel is gung ho on sidelinning Kang and bringing back RDJ, this at least makes way more sense.

If this wasn't a shameless desperate move and Feige had properly built things up post-Endgame, Iceman's suggestion earlier in this thread would have been my preferred route:

I'm honestly a little puzzled that they announced this publicly. People were already expecting RDJ to return for Secret Wars so Marvel could have just said that he's starring in the movies but not spoil the fact that he's playing Doctor Doom. Sure, people would begin to ask more questions about Doom's casting as the movie gets closer to release if no actor gets announced for the part but I think many would have also assumed that it's mostly a voice role and Marvel wants to keep it a secret for some reason. And even if RDJ's role was leaked, a lot of people would have called total BS on it until the day of release.

Quite frankly, the only reason to reveal it now is to get hype going but it's not like people weren't going to check out the next 2-part Avengers event anyway.

If those rumors about Doom being behind Lake Bell's character's expedition in Wakanda Forever ended up being true, this wouldn't have been a bad way to start planting the seeds for him.
