Anthony Peckham, the screenwriter behind Sherlock Holmes, has signed on to write Yucatan for Warner Bros., with Robert Downey Jr. attached to star, says a report at Deadline.

Yucatan is based on a story by the late actor Steve McQueen, who had intended starring in a film version himself. The story would feature Downey as a deep sea diver for-hire who is hired to uncover lost Mayan treasure.

In addition to Sherlock Holmes, Peckham also adapted John Carlin's Invictus for Clint Eastwood's 2009 film.

Certainly a bit different to RDJ's more recent projects.

This sounds pretty cool :woot:

It's like a Jetset 60s version of Indiana Jones and Bond.

You know...typically this is the kind of film I wouldn't even bother renting. but i'm not ashamed to say that i'll see it purely because Robert Downey Jr is in it. :P

Shame we didn't get to see McQueen do it, sounds right up his ally.

I like the sound of this. Yeah, McQueen as always would have been awesome, but maybe this was something RDJ might have wanted to get off the grond. Perhaps he's a fan of him.

I'll be keeping out for this. You can't stop RDJ right now.

I know this movie is in development for a while, but I've got a feeling that, once Downey's schedule clears up after Avengers 2, that this will be his next film.

I also have a feeling that WB wants either a big director that they want to continue to work with (Guy Ritchie, Nolan, Cuaron) or one of their up-and-comers (Denis Villeneuve from Prisoners)

closest thing we will get to Uncharted

speaking of which, RDJ 15 years ago would have been an awesome Nathan Drake

Susan Downey Talks THE JUDGE, Radical Changes in Developing the Script, SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 Status, PINOCCHIO, YUCATAN, and More
Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub said:
At the recent Los Angeles press day I landed an extended interview with Susan Downey. She talked about developing The Judge and what changed along the way, the first cut, collaborating with Dobkin in the editing room, why they wanted it to be their first project, how the industry has changed since working with Joel Silver, what needs to happen to get Robert and Shane Black (writer/director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) working on another project, the status of Sherlock Holmes 3, Team Downey projects Pinnochio, Yucatan (which was based on the late Steve McQueen’s idea for the treasure hunt movie), the Hunter Scott U.S.S. Indianapolis story, a horror movie, and more. Hit the jump for what she had to say.
We have Yucatan which was based on the late Steve McQueen had an idea for the treasure hunt movie. He wrote these insane leather bound volumes of this beautiful story and we’ve taken that as our launching point to do this great, wild, kind of action, sort of Inception-type of movie.

I wish this was RDJ's next film, in-between his Marvel stuff.

Too bad it’s Netflix but at this point anywhere it can finally get made is a win.
