Robert Downey Jr. Has a Due Date
Source: Variety
July 24, 2009

Iron Man 2 and Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr. is joining Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) in Due Date, the comedy that Todd Phillips will direct for Warner Bros. this fall.

Downey will play an expectant father who finds himself on a road trip with a mismatched partner, as he races to get there before the birth of his first child.

Galifianakis plays his road trip mate in a comedy that Phillips calls "a buddy comedy without the buddies."

The script was written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, and revised by Adam Sztykiel. Shooting will begin in September, in Atlanta, Arizona and Los Angeles.

It should be interesting, seeing him in a comedy that doesn't have him portray a black man.

Downey and Galifianakis? Consider my ticket bought.

Sounds almost like...

Hope it ends up being just as funny.

Warner Bros. has set Michelle Monaghan to star alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis in "Due Date," the Todd Phillips-directed comedy.

Monaghan will portray the pregnant wife of a guy (Downey) who races home in hopes of arriving before she delivers their first child. He takes on a mismatched traveling companion (Galifianakis).

Phillips is producing through his Green Hat banner with Daniel Goldberg. Scott Budnick is executive producer. WB is partnered with Legendary Pictures on the film, and Susan Downey is an executive producer.

Monaghan next stars in "Trucker," a film that opens Oct. 9 in New York and Oct. 16 in Los Angeles. She most recently completed "Somewhere" for director Sofia Coppola.

Warner Bros has released the first movie trailer for Hangover director Todd Phillips‘ next comedy Due Date. The film stars Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr in a buddy-comedy story which has been described as kinda Hangover meets Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland (with rewrites by Adam Sztykiel) has Galifianakis as a wannabe actor who becomes the companion to an expectant father / businessman (Downey) as they dash cross-country to (hopefully) arrive in time for the childbirth.

Robert Downey Jr has gone on record saying he thinks this might be “the second greatest movie” he’s ever made. Is it? Hit the jump to watch the trailer now. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below. The pairing of Downey Jr and Galifianakis seems to have worked brilliantly. Downey is the perfect straight man to Galifianakis’ comic relief/foil.

Here's the trailer. [YT]RI3PEqLlc_4[/YT]

This looks hilarious, can't wait.

I just saw the trailer. Looks great!

They completely ruined the openign part which would have been great to see in the theater, but other than that is looks funny as hell.

"You hand me that dog I will rip it in half"

"You better check yourself, before you wreck yourself'

I......didn't find it funny at all. I love both performers, loved "The Hangover" but nothing in that trailer worked for me. I admit to being a little concerned for Galifianakis. I don't want him to be pigeonholed into the "creepy, weird but funny" guy for the rest of his films. It was funny in "The Hangover" when you had it balanced with 3 other great comic performers. But with just him and Downey, I think it could come off really annoying.

The trailer is too narrow in it's aim, it doesn't explain what the movie is about and doesn't even show Monaghan who is the goal the characters are trying to reach, instead it just hopes people will be attracted by the new comedy guy and RDJ pairing up for pratfalls and arguing.

Yeah but with that said Hunter, it may just be all they need to put ass's in seats. Downey is red hot right now and Zac can do no wrong with comedy to the 17-27 year old bracket.

i am a huge RDJ fan. but this was not funny.

it hurts me .

Jesus. The trailer wasn't that bad. Other than the spoiled beginning it was pretty damn solid. It's tough enough to market a comedy. And Todd Philips is a solid director at comedy. This will probably be better than 90% of the comedies out there.

I thought the trailer was fine. It's only a teaser.

Trailer looked pretty good. I'm looking forward to it

Trailer sucks...I've seen it like 5 times, and gets worse with each viewing...love RDJ and Zach, but Zach is in full Allan-mode and I'm pretty sure RDJ will make the most of a pretty shotty role...bet he isn't given much to work with...
