Over the course of my 38 years, a lot of celebrities have passed away. Personally, I have only missed one of them, George Carlin. However, today, I must sadly add Robin Williams.

While George impacted my life more with his candid commentary on the social issues of the world, Robin did it with his amazing energy. From his early days as Mork to his iconic comedy roles in Aladdin and Mrs. Doubtfire, to his amazing dramatic turns in Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting, he always put everything he had into his roles, as well as his stand-up. He was one of the few entertainers who never "phoned it in". He filled so many people's lives with such happy memories.

O' captain, my captain, you will be missed.

I seriously still can't believe this (especially that it was a suicide). My whole childhood right there. Actually going to watch Hook right now. RIP Robin:csad:

R.I.P Robin Williams. A truly great actor and comedian.

Feel so sad about this. I'm old enough to remember his early appearances on Happy Days and then Mork & Mindy. He was a true comedic genius and probably the best "improv" actor of all time. Can't believe he is not around anymore...

I'm just incredibly devastated at this loss. :csad: I don't know what else I can say.

I hope Netflix has What Dreams May Come...my favorite Williams film.

Some celebs you see their work and think it's okay or fun for just that moment, and then there's a guy like Robin who touched so many people in a truly meaningful way that really sticks. It just goes to show what a huge talent he had that he's going to leave this big hole that no one else could ever fill. :(

Devastated. This is a big one for me. He was amazing, a true legend.

Terrible news. He seemed like such a cool guy outside of living cartoon image he had. Here's a touching video of Robin with his daughter, Zelda, talking about his love of the video game.

Posted this in the RIP Thread, but I thought I'd share it here, too.

Absolutely heartbroken to hear about Robin, too.

As a personal anecdote, I got to meet the man personally when I was an extra on "Patch Adams," of all things. I was very impressed with his warmth and his humanity; and that off-the-cuff improv was no act....he's like that almost 24-7. He *always* had cast and crew struggling to keep a straight face between takes.

I remember one instance where, between scenes, Robin started doing a riff on "Flashlight" by Parliament, and the young director, Tom Shadyac, looked at him like he was crazy --- didn't have a clue. So I, the lowly extra, step in and say, "Yeah, you know, George Clinton? The P-Funk?" And Robin said, "YAY-US! That man gets it! Preach on, my brotha!" And we got together and....

....holy ****. I got down to the P-Funk with Robin ****ing Williams. Surreal.

But what I always remember most about my time on the set with him was that, during lunch break, all the cast and crew got to go to the catering truck and get all the fancy gourmet cuisine, while us extras were given sandwiches and potato chips on a rickety picnic table. Thing is.....Robin sat down and had lunch with us, not them. Shot the breeze with us, joked with us, chatted with us like we were all old friends.

And I guess that's what I consider him now, for just the 2 days I worked with him. Old friend, you will be missed.

We didn't just lose a great comedian and Hollywood star, we lost a great human being. Sad to see that someone so human felt like their life wasn't worth living, when the fact is that their life touched the world.

Why his death hurts me so is that he was a man who gave so much joy, intelligence and laughter to the world and his last moments on this planet were complete sadness, depression!

I've been thinking to myself, will I ever be a able to watch one of his movies without being reminded of the sadness he felt before he died. :(

I've never felt this sad about the death of a celebrity before. He gave me so much joy and his soul touched so many. His level of sensitivity is what shone through his performances, that it is ok for a man to tear up and love so much! Apparently form others who have met him said he was the same kind of person off screen! He deserved so much happiness, and what he struggled with and how he died is so much more tragic!

This scene in Bicentennial Man touched me, he put his heart and soul into everything!

His emotional performance when he first crowed like Pan hits me every time!

His portrayal of Dr. Malcolm Sayer in Awakenings inspired me on how to be a good man.

Thank you Robin!!

I loved him. He helped shape my childhood. My mom and I are crazy about his movies.

He was so amazing. Mastered it all.

I keep thinking about "what dreams may come".

"I don't know where the **** I am"

- Horse that's high.

Man Robin was a pretttyy funny guy. RIP

I just can't believe he's gone & it just devastated me when I first heard the news. :csad: RIP

Huge loss. What gets me the most is hearing people he worked with describe him as the kindest, sweetest human being they ever met.

Very sad news.

That's a great film. This really gets to me and usually I'm not impacted by celebrity deaths. I think it's because Robin Williams is most associated with happiness and laughter. I knew he had issues , but never saw this coming. It's just not right.

“Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor...I am Pagliacci.”

Great analogy, Erz.
Robin was truly the embodiment of Pagliacci.

A good read at Cracked by one of the head editors that might help some understand why Robin Williams committed suicide. Some language in it so I don't think I can link to it but the title will be obvious.

Robin died, yes everyone dies, but the suicide angle adds more of the shock to it. Wonder if people will ever learn the lessons from things like these.
