RoboCop Reboot

You know, after seeing Real Steel and obviously the Transformers movies, a CGI ED-209 doesnt worry me anymore, in fact, I quite look forward to it, especially if they do it RS style and make the actual thing for still shots and just use CGI for when it moves.

Agreed and I'd definitely to go the Real Steel approach as it's just the one machine, where as with TF it was harder to build the prop bots as there were so many and they were mostly in motion.

Wouldnt that have been awesome :woot:. Would have loved to see him get the chance to make his Robocop 4 though, sounds great Robo going up against more advanced robots.

Yeah it would have been great and finally brought to life one of my favourite games of mu childhood! :D

But even without that I'd love to have seen what Winston came up with for the designs of Verhoeven's advanced cyborgs.

I still wish a RoboCop Vs. Terminator movie would've been made. I heard it was actually set to be made in the 1990s at one point but got scrapped when a director couldn't get onboard. A shame, in the right hands, an RVT movie would've been incredible. It could still be done today, though.

Robocop vs Terminator film would have been awesome! i still have that game for the Sega and a few of the comics. i think at the very least it would be cool to get an animated/CGI film at some point. bring in Arnold and Peter Weller to reprise their roles in voice overs.

Yeah, the TF's were never in a de-activated state and even when they were just standing there

Yeah it would have been amazing, I kinda miss Verhoevens movies as well, they were like cartoons they were SO entertaining.

RoboCop 2 was fine. My only gripe was that they turned The Old Man into a villain tarnishing the ending to RoboCop 1.

I had no issue with that. Look at how The Old Man reacts to one of his employees being shot up by ED 209 in his office. He's not angry because an innocent life has been taken but rather that money has just gone down the drain. Just because he's thankful Murphy saved his life at the end of the picture doesn't mean the character's outlook would just instantly change.

In Robocop 1 the Old Man was "just" a cynical business man, in the sequel is became straight evil boss.

A man who doesn't give a damn that an employee lost his life in front of his eyes is more than just a 'cynical' business man.

I so cant wait to see what they do with this film and once it gets into production stage.

i really doubt this new film will reach the greatness of the first Robocop film, but it has potential to be better than Robocop 2 & 3.

just for the record, i thought Robocop 2 was a pretty good film. though there were certain scenes and characters that i felt didn't fit in, and the film ended up being a watered down version of the original. Robocop 3 was just plain horrible. what a POS movie that was.

I think the only change Robocop really needs for him to be popular in modern day is to be able to run.

I like RoboCop 2 as well. It's not as good as the original of course but still an enjoyable sequel. Who doesn't love RoboCain?

RoboCop 3, on the other hand, deserves all of the scorn and hate it gets.

the only thing I did not like about RoboCop 2 was the music, I mean it almost ruins it for me and what makes no sense is they used part 1 music for the trailer:

if 2 used the same composer as 1 and 3 it would have made the movie THAT much more cooler (well to me anyway).

I wish RoboCop 2 had kept the original theme music as well. It felt weird seeing a RoboCop film without the music. I'd love for a recut of the film to be done that edits the original score into the movie.

RoboCop 2 is so meh. I don't fault anyone specificly. It just did not work out.

found this little clip on the old youtube, as you can see the part 1 music just makes part 2 THAT much better:

Definately, if we had gotten the score for movie 1 in movie 2 it would have elevated the movie quite a lot. I didnt think Robocop 2 was bad by any means, but changing the score from part 1 didnt help it.

Very true, No to a running robocop.

That is one thing i think they should introduce to the reboot, I have went into detail about it before on the boards, but suffice to say, there are crimes he would be unable to deal with if he couldn't run. It was the one thing that abothered me about the concept of the original , but i put it aside, suspension of disbelief style, as the slow moving tank aesthetic was quite appealing.

I also think the first robocop is a masterpiece, afair it was the first bootleg tape of a movie i ever bought, from a kid at school, being too young to see it in the cinemas at the time. Watching that Robocop bootleg was the equivalent of getting high and/or drunk as an adult, an experience everyone should have the chance to try at least once.

Saw that clip, awesome. Makes me want to see the entire movie rescored with Poledouris' work.

Exactly, but with ED209 there's be just the one so they could build him for scenes that were stationary and maybe even have it capable of doing top half movement to capture it firing it's weapons for real so to speak.

Awesome :woot:.

Good memories! :D

Did you check out Black Book?

I think the only change Robocop really needs for him to be popular in modern day is to be able to run.

He'll move like Iron Man I think. the only reason he moved like the slow tank is because the suit was so heavy it wasn't possible at the time to make him move quickly.

The thing that trailer shows is that the film didn't get the satire aspect right. The first was funny with wink, the lines in there are full on camp IMO.

Btw who is the actress in the white suit that says Robocop can be replaced?

I don't know, but it sounds like she doesn't know the rules about bringing someone back from the dead Robocop style. :cwink: 'There can only be one! Robocop! Coming in from the skies on a jet-pack like a Robo-Revelation! The one lamb who dared open the instruction book to the ultimate jet-pack!'

Actually, that is the one bit in Robocop 3 that I do like, when he flies in at the end on the jet-pack, it really is awesome.

I've seen that before. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the exact cue they used for the temp track in that scene during post. I actually am one of the few who liked what Rosenman came up with for R2. Eventhough it's not as iconic as Poledouris' theme/score. As nice as it would've been to see Poledouris return I think Rosenman's score captures Kershner's take on Robocop perfectly. I also think he wrote a nice theme that fans love to make fun of.
