RoboCop Reboot

Wow a running Robocop would be freakin awesome. It was like the first time you saw Jason run/hurriedly move in Friday the 13th. Just kind of a wow moment.

who else thinks this is a vapor movie? Gets announced and falls into Develpment Hell for years till it dies off.

possible with how things was prior when daren was on it and then left and all that. But things seem to be in place and if casting gets under way in next few months we could see the film easily start production summer/fall next year.

I don't know, but it sounds like she doesn't know the rules about bringing someone back from the dead Robocop style. :cwink: 'There can only be one! Robocop! Coming in from the skies on a jet-pack like a Robo-Revelation! The one lamb who dared open the instruction book to the ultimate jet-pack!'

Actually, that is the one bit in Robocop 3 that I do like, when he flies in at the end on the jet-pack, it really is awesome.

That's the only scene I've seen from Robocop 3. :D

I must recognize her from some of her guest roles.

That's why you give him a badass car.

The 1994 tv series had it's charm.

Let's all delete "Prime Directives" from our minds though......

curios to see Elite Squad 2... after it having a 100% rating.... saw the first one (it was ok) and i could understand thematically why they'd want the director on board, however his action scenes are beyond bland... hoping elite squad 2 could prove he could do action.

if all he wants is another anti-currupt government movie with no action then he should maybe stick to his elitesquad movies. imo Paul verhoevens quirky sci-fantasy feel to it was very well done, plus the incredible soundtrack.

wondering how this guys gonna handle it

Well, artists handle different things in their professional life in many different ways.

eg If an artist is uncomfortable at a studio for whatever reasons, he will just move to another studio, sign a contract with them, or even work freelance. He doesn't have to have any contact with them, freedom of choice.
Of course, the studio won't want this to happen, so will have a lot of people who mistreated him in the past, and hate his guts, all suddenly act like they liked him all along, or are changing their opinion of him, in order to have him stick around, but a good artist can see through the bullsh**.
And that wouldn't matter anyway, even if they were genuine, if he is uncomfortable with a situation in the workplace, than that is that, he goes somewhere else.

The 'other half', the studio, wouldn't put up with that situation if the roles were reversed, so why should he be expected to?

And of course, the studio will fear him now, as they no longer have any power to manipulate him, through manipulating others he trusted, so they will be scared that he is going to be a big hit for other studios, and will pale in his shadow, being enemies with real personal emnity for good.

That is just the way of the world. Freedom of choice.
When you have a certain amount of power, you don't have to work for anyone you don't want to, or don't respect or trust, and of course, people will go to great lengths to make sure you don't know how much power you carry, but the wise artist knows.

You gotta love the satiric comments on this future society (2015 or something like that? We're almost there..), very distinct in the newscasts and hilarious commercials. I hope an eventual reboot/remake still has this tone.

Btw, note a young John Glover during the MagnaVolt ad (my favorite besides Sunblock 5000).

When it comes to the original films, I actually really enjoyed RC 2 as a sequel. I think the many hilarious oneliners made it for me, and I loved the robot antagonist "on drugs" back then. I'll have to revisit both again to see if I might change my mind today.

I actually haven't seen the third one, but I've understood it's more or less a catastrophy?

This project sounded VERY interesting when Aronofsky would be involved, now of course the expectations are lower. But of course I'll have to check this out. Would be cool with some cameos from Weller himself, or why not Nancy Allen.

Aye, it is very low budget, and a pg13 this time, it is a very diluted Robocop. Fred Dekker, who co-wrote it with Frank Miller, and directed it, refuses to talk about it in interviews, I think there were a lot of production problems.
They also tried doing the T2 thing, with giving robo a kid sidekick(a girl this time), which is a bit cheesey as well.

I remember the first time i watched it I quite enjoyed it, but any money on it I would have been stoned to the gills, haha, because the next time I saw it years later I didn't enjoy it very much.

But, that bit at the end when Robo swoops in on the jet-pack to save the citizens, I love that bit, haha, it is a wee bit cheesey as well, and i have seen folk say they cringed at it, but to me, it was a great superhero moment, and the sfx for that bit where actually not bad.

Variety's Jeff Sneider tweeted this in response to the news that Russell Crowe is in talks to star in Aronofsky's Noah:

Sure, Russell Crowe, MIGHT star in Aronofsky's NOAH... but do you know what else he MIGHT star in? Three words: Ro. Bo. Cop. #FloatThisBoat

Why do they think these writers and director are qualified to fill Verhoeven's shoes?

I'm one of the biggest Robocop fan on this forum probably and I'm not going to lie and say that I wasn't against this when I first heard about it. Even when Aronofsky was attached I had my doubts.

But having watching Tropa De Elite 1 & 2 I'm now convinced that Jose Padilha can give us a great Robocop film. I seriously recommend people to watch both those films (especially Part 2) to understand that picking this director for the job wasn't a mistake. Verhoeven made a masterpiece with the first Robocop which will forever be ingrained in pop culture but I have no doubt that Jose Padilha will do a great job.

Now knowing that Nick Schenk (wrote Gran Torino screenplay) was hired to do a rewrite on the script only strengthens my belief this has the potential to be quite the movie. ‘Gran Torino’ Writer Nick Schenk Rewriting ‘RoboCop’ Remake

Heard on the radio that Michael Fassbender was a rumor for Robocop, now that would be cool.

I wish RoboCop 2 had kept the original theme music as well. It felt weird seeing a RoboCop film without the music. I'd love for a recut of the film to be done that edits the original score into the movie.
Yeah the music by Leonard Rosenman felt like a made-for-TV score.

It's hard to match Basil Poledouris score from the first one period. His score was immaculate.

He conveyed so much with that score. It literally had a voice of its own without being intrusive. One of those beautifully subtle and memorable scores that come every so often.

as for crowe weight he could easily work out more then he already does to drop a few pounds/slime up. All he would need is maybe a good 2-4 months, and at this rate robocop probably wont be shooting to the summer/early fall the earliest. So it would be plently of time to do that.

He lost some weight already. He'll be filming Les Miserables soon so it'll factor too on which project he will choose next.

So true. It's still one of the best movie scores ever in my opinion. I hope it's featured in the reboot.

No Peter Weller, making it family friendly, and they didn't even bother to bring back The Old Man. It was a total disaster.

I'm not too keen on the idea of the movie being set between Murphy dying and becoming Robocop. The idea doesn't really interest me that much. I'd rather the movie end up being a straightforward remake, to bring the character up to date. So for now, I'll just stick with Robocop 1 and 2.

Yes, I like Robocop 2. :p
