RoboCop Reboot

reboots that arent just the same thing that we have already seen is a good thing. most movies of the 80s were great for their time, and no studio wishes to expell those films as never existing. the newer camera techniques and more willingness to go darker and more violent is something i think these r-rated reboots are good for. when i talk violence tho, i like that you can tell its not a plastic head or obviously fake eyeball falling from someones socket.
redoing robocop and escape from new york are on my top list for films they should redo, but make sure its actually really good and not just for the hell of it. the escape films were good for their time but cold definetly be better with todays tech and direction

I'm all for a reboot. The only thing they cannot possibly change is the theme though.

I know they'll probably want to go with a different theme, much like the Nolan Batman movies went in a different direction, but I really hope they stick to this theme. It gets you amped.

I agree to an extent. What I think they should do is save the theme until the very end, like "Casino Royale".

A reboot of the RoboCop series should be one of the easiest reboots to do. We don't need the character to be Alex Murphy, make it someone else who becomes a Robo 2.0. All new story, all new characters. Simple as that.

I don't know if it's such a good idea to have the story set in the same continuity, one of the good things about Robocop was people's reactions to him, as they had never seen anything like this before...all the cops running into the shooting gallery, the guy holding up the liquor store(the best and probably most realistic reaction), the news report on him 'something their parents only read about in comic books'.

I don't think he's focusing on movies at all now, family is more important to him.

And anyway Jose Padilha is currently in-talks as a director.

Ya since they already nabbed a new director darren probably wouldn't come back to robo

I agree that Darren needs to sort out his divorce probs and custody battle.

Good to have Padilha on board.Great director, and Elite Troop 1&2 are intelligent, real and extremely violent movies,Loved both.

i still dont know much on this jose guy but i wish him the best of luck with the film.

A RoboCop remake?

good answer. f... everyone else. do it for yourself.

Q: This is something that can work out really well or... I mean, because there's a lot of expectations around this, how are your expectations?
Padilha: I have no concerns about it. I only work on movies when it feels right, when I add something of my own way of portraying things. I make movies for myself and I don't feel nervous, I have no problem with expectations, and if the movie is going to work or not. I just look forward to keep its integrity and directing it the best way I can, all the rest doesn't concern me.

RUmor has it (************** so take it with a grain of salt) that Keanu, Depp, and Tom Cruise are rumored for Robocop

I have to say no to all of them

The thing I liked about Robocop was that Peter Weller looked like he really could have been a cop. Even though Nancy Allen was somewhat attractive, she didn't look like a Victorian secret underwear model, she was also convincing. Even the bad guys, who are gleefully bad, look like how you would imagine real criminals to look and act. For all the comedy and over-the-top violence, Robocop felt really tangible real world feeling to it. That will probably go right out the window.

We just need a good actor with a strong chin and we'll be set.

Bruce Campbell for Robocop!
"Come get some...punk."

I jest!

I don't see Cruise, Depp or Reeves as Robocop. Hell, Reeves already acts wooden, having him act robotic maybe asking for too much. When in doubt, go with Routh :awesome:

He certainly has a sturdy monotone voice.

I like most of those three names. But I can't see any of them taking. Depp is far busy with so many other projects, and the other two just don't see it as a type of film they would go for. It will probably end up some nobody actor or some scifi genre actor.

Routh would be perfect for RoboCop. I mean he's as robotic as it gets, and I bet they wouldn't have to pay him much.
