RoboCop Reboot

reboots that arent just the same thing that we have already seen is a good thing. most movies of the 80s were great for their time, and no studio wishes to expell those films as never existing. the newer camera techniques and more willingness to go darker and more violent is something i think these r-rated reboots are good for. when i talk violence tho, i like that you can tell its not a plastic head or obviously fake eyeball falling from someones socket.
redoing robocop and escape from new york are on my top list for films they should redo, but make sure its actually really good and not just for the hell of it. the escape films were good for their time but cold definetly be better with todays tech and direction

no movie made for a studio today will be more or even as violent as the original Robocop. it just won't happen. I don't know, remaking Escape From New York has potential to be good if everything is done right, but Robocop is so about the 1980's that I don't know if an update would even be relevant.

RUmor has it (************** so take it with a grain of salt) that Keanu, Depp, and Tom Cruise are rumored for Robocop

I have to say no to all of them

how could they report such nonsense.

see thats just it, the original robocop is a total 80s movie, and thats fine for what it is. but if they are going to remake something like that, they need to update everything about it for now. the design, the story, etc. sure it may still revolve around a drug cartel or whatever but the possibilities for a cop turned into a cyborg would be so much more advanced in design than the 80s version. the most advanced thing we got about the suit itself i think was his gun hiding in his thigh. i think he should still have a gun and not just bullets coming from his shoulder or arm tho. the bipedal robot would look so much better and im sure something like a flight of stairs wouldnt be its defeat. and as far as violence being used, i would think it would be the same if not more extreme now. the direct to dvd version of repo the genetic opera was more violent than robocop and that was a musical so yea, it could be done. but i would like if they kept the concept of the guy mutating towards the end, reminds me of planet terror.

and whoever is robocop should not be a big star, the role doesnt call for such.

Repo the Genetic Opera was not a big studio film. I would bet money on a Robocop remake being PG-13, and probably devoid of the satirical nature of the original film. moments like ED 209 falling down the stair are what make it a classic and the reason everyone looks upon the movie so fondly. it is an 80's movie, but it is also quintessentially about the 80's. if a new film can't capture all that, and can't comment as wryly on our times now as the original did on the 80's, then there's no point. just make something else with a robot police officer.

I love Ed 209 falling down the stairs. And how it squeels like a pig too.

No offense to routh fans. I would hate to see him as robo. He ruined superman for me and I hate to see him much up another iconic character.

Alex Murphy / RoboCop- Cillian Murphy
Robert "Bob" Morton- Leonardo DiCaprio
Officer Anne Lewis- Rachel McAdams
Richard "Dick" Jones- Alec Baldwin
Clarence Boddicker- Colin Farrell
Emil Antonowsky- Timothy Olyphant
Joe Cox- Matthew Lillard
Steve Minh- Rick Yune
Sergeant Warren Reed - Samuel L. Jackson
Donald Johnson- Donald Glover
The Old Man- Rutger Hauer

I wouldn't blame Superman Returns on Routh, that was more or less a mistake that was on Bryan Singer, he made that film with the previous Superman films in mind. Routh was only doing as he was told, portray Chris Reeves as Superman. I think he would be good as Robocop, Henry Cavill is becoming the new face for Supes, Bale became the new face for Batman, let Routh take Robocop

Well the few other things I seen routh in chuck/scott piligrim he was for me just as bad as he was in sr. But really for robo I don't see him being an option and like someone said it will probably go to some new/young actor.

I'd hate to see any big name star in a RoboCop movie. The less recognizable faces the more real it would feel.

Routh is a robot. What more could you ask for?

this is the perfect cast. Alec Baldwin ftw

Well probably be simular villains but probably new names. And only murphy/other key cop supporting guys will likely have same name.

To me, Guy Pearce would make a good Murphy.

Johnny Drama's idea of Rutger Hauer as "The Old Man" just feels so...right.

I have a feeling that we'll see more...robots this time around. Maybe two competiting companies wanting to bask in the glory of the world's first super cop.

What about Damian Lewis?

I have to give a big no to Cillian Murphy as Robocop though. I like him alot but I dont think hes good for the role

I can't see Cillian as a cop. I can see him drinking coffee at a hip cafe though!

I don't see Cruise, Depp or Reeves as Robocop. Hell, Reeves already acts wooden, having him act robotic maybe asking for too much. When in doubt, go with Routh :awesome:

I'd rather Routh had returned for the other man of steel reboot.

Let's not talk about stuff like that b/c it irreverent.
