RoboCop Reboot

The good news with this is that I'd finally be able to have a CGI'ed ED-209! :awesome:

ED-209 has to be in a new film. The impact of his scenes in the original are something that everyone remembers. You can't have Robocop without ED-209, Ham without cheese, Peanut Butter without Jelly, Cornflakes without Milk, well actually you can, but you know what I mean.

I'll be very upset if ED-209 isn't in the new movie. That's like Batman without The Joker, you just can't have one without the other.

i dont think so in my mind, sure the ed 209 is a cool character but he isnt the key to plot for film.

I agree. ED-209 is good for a laugh, but it isn't important to the plot. Unless you want to recapture all the internal politics of OCP.

Ed 209 has to be in it, It just would not be the same without him.

well he wasnt in 2nd/3rd films or the mini series right. it was jsut a one film minor character which wasnt that all to important to film. When 209 could just be replaced with some other weapon that goes nutsy and kills some folks.

I pretty sure Ed 209 appeared in both sequels and I had his action figure :yay:

ED-209 is iconic though. That's the difference.

ED-209 MUST be in this!

you know, at first i was adamantly against this remake/reboot. but now i am starting to warm up to it especially with the special effects they can create today. i just hope they keep the bloody violence like in the first film.

anyone else about Michael C Hall (Dexter) being one of the choices for the role of Murphy/Robocop?? one of my roomates brought it up last nite. i think he could do an excellent job. though i'd love if Fassbender got the role.

there was a rumor of him awhile ago but i dont know if it was just some bs fan thing or what not.

Michael C. Hall is Dexter. Anthony Michael Hall was in 80's flicks, and TDK (Mike Engle of Gotham Tonight).

On another note I'm still very excited for this film, they have a great up and coming director, and reading his interviews, he will take the core and add new life to it. I read on Ain't It cool News with an interview with the director saying that they are almost to the shooting script. Man I can't wait to hear some casting news.

Who the **** is Padilha and why is he getting to direct Robocop?

I have heard a few times on a movie news podcast I frequent that when the podcaster discussing the Robocop remake saw Padilha's action movies, he instantly got why he got the job; among other reasons it had heavy violence and Verhoeven worthy satire. So take that for what its worth.

Exclusive: José Padilha Shares His Take on RoboCop

Earlier today, ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha about his anticipated sequel Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, which will finally open in the States starting on Friday.

Talk eventually got around to his planned relaunch of RoboCop for MGM. Anyone who has seen "The Enemy Within" will realize immediately why Padilha is perfect to direct a science fiction movie based in a world of corrupt police and politicians, since that's very much the core of the new movie.

He's hoping to start shooting early next year and he shared with us what we can expect from his take on the popular '80s action movie:

"'RoboCop' the first movie was fantastic," he told us. "But even if there was no movie, the concept of 'RoboCop' is brilliant, first because it lends itself to a lot of social criticism, but also because it poses a question, 'To when do you lose you humanity?' The way it does that is by replacing body parts with machine parts, and that's very smart because guess what? It's going to happen!"

"I have my take on it," he continued, "And I can tell you this: In the first 'RoboCop' when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?"

When asked whether we might see some of his documentary skills at work for the movie, maybe with a little bit of handheld camerawork, he responded, "Listen, they gave me the job, I'm going to do it my way, so yeah, you're going to see myself in there. For bad or for good, I'm going to shoot it the way I shoot it."

For those Brazilians hoping that Padilha will reunite with his "Elite Squad" star Wagner Maura to play RoboCop, we have some sad news (at least for them) that in fact, the director is looking for an American actor for the role.

"We need an American RoboCop, man. RoboCop is an American guy, his name is Alex Murphy," he said, laughing at the idea of turning Maura's character Nascimento into an android.

Hmmm, I hope this isn't going to turn out into 2hrs of just a documentary style journey inbetween Murphy's Death and eventual Reincarnation into RoboCop.

Did that concept art have anything to do with Aronofsky's project?
