You're talking about him as a supporting role. Tons of high profile actors take supporting roles in big blockbuster movies all the time.

But as the lead role in a rebooted franchise? With a resume like his?

Didn't buy it for a second...

Fassbender's name gets thrown into a lot of film discussions here, but there's something about him which I think would be perfect for Robocop. He has some quality which reminds me a little of Weller.

Definitely. X-Men: First Class is his only movie of his I've seen thus far but he was excellent in it and I can totally see him as Murphy in a rebooted RoboCop film.

You should watch Inglorious Basterds just for the long scene in the bar where Fassbender is playing an English army Lieutenant pretending to be German, it's just a pleasure to watch. And so tense.

Yeah, Fassbender's whole look is one that lend's itself as being perfect for Murphy - thin, wiry, cut; whatever term you want to use - Fassbender visually fit's the bill.

It also doesnt exactly hurt that on top of that he's one helluva fantastic actor. Would be awesome if it ever came off.

Ya fass would be great. But like I said I really hope they go for a 30 something. I don't want to see tthe role go to a young guy. Now sure there is a few young guys like say chris pine and a few others I like. I just don't want to see it go to a stupid young actor. The point of robo. Was he was a good cop, a family man. So it should be a 30 something.

I was thinking Fassbender would be wasted in the Murphy/Robocop role, I mean, after he is tranformed, there is not much to the role, and I don't imagine a reboot bringing much more to it either.
Then, I started thinking, if Fassbender played the Clarance Boddinger type role in the film, *that* would be a far more interesting role for his skills.

Well why would it matter if he is covered for most film. Heck the new judge dred movie with karl urban won't be unmask during the new film. It would just make who ever will be robo to have more unique acting experience.

That manip makes me wish Fassbender gets the role in the reboot. He can pull it off both looks-wise and acting-wise.

Fassbender is perfect. i really hope he gets the role. isn't he the director's first choice? anyway, i am positive that Fassbender will do just as good or even better than Peter Weller.

I don't think Weller will ever be topped as the character, but Fassbender would be excellent in his own way and more than a worthy successor for sure.

I'm a bit late coming into this, but I think the only problem with this reboot, is that Robocop the original is very much of it's time, I just hope it wont be an excuse to churn out an empty money maker!

Yeah, the original film was actually quite scathing in its depictions of 80s corporate greed. And by having Robocop be pretty much owned by a corporation, they had the perfect circumstances to address that on screen. I'd like to think that a more modern version of the film could reflect some of the contemporary issues we face today, but as our problems are more to do with banks/governments than corporations at the moment, I'm not sure how.

The film’s being directed by Jose Padilha, helmer of two action packed installments of Elite Squad. Kinnaman, who’d take the role originated by Peter Weller, most recently turned in a memorable performance in Safe House opposite Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. Needless to say I love this. He's my favorite character in The Killing and he's just a fantastic actor. I'm so glad he's getting more roles because he deserves them.
