RoboCop Reboot

Thanks i'll have to check them out. I just hope they let him be creative with the film, Robocop is a far stretch from a family film, yet i can't help but think the studio will push for a PG-13, and while most films can be accomplished with that certificate i think Robocop would suffer.

I'd also really like to see if they keep with using the brilliant idea of showing the adverts like the 'Magna-Volt' and stuff, because I really think that helped immerse the audience into the world.

I was wondering the same, they've gotta have 'i'd buy that for a dollar' though. Thats up there with Ed 209.

Totally agree, the violence as graphic as it was back then, all helped show the grittiness of that world.

You know maybe I shouldn't say Padilha is all that different from Verhoeven because in Tropa De Elite 2 he utilizes this outspoken Glenn Beck type who constantly rallies for the police through his popular show.

That's one instance where I got a Verhoeven vibe from him as we keep getting a shot of the actual studio and the show playing on an actual television set as some of the other main characters watched.

Here's hoping Jose uses that technique for Robocop because he did it quite well in Tropa De Elite 2. I really hope they stick with an R rating because his work in Tropa De Elite 1 & 2 show that when it comes to violence like Verhoeven he doesn't hold back.

haha yes! They could make it more of this time, by maybe having it a reality tv show where the host has the same catchphrase, just to mod it up a bit!

I mean i often read 'batman needs to be a R' he does not theres stuff you can get round, but for robocop you need to see him shot to pieces, it makes you feel for him when he wants revenge, when he goes home knowing he'll never get to be the dad he was again.

I remember seeing robocop for the very first time and the torture scene of murphy for me, made me really believe in Robocops plight.

Yeah that scene really sticks with you, just the cruelty of those guys when Boddicker is doing the ne ne ne ne ne then shoots his hand off is horrific but makes you as a viewer dislike his character.

It's a really good point bringing up the rating because, like you've pointed out the film could really suffer if it was watered down. Like the original it spared no punches and it found it's audience just fine.

Exactly but i think a studio would hate to put all this money into a movie then limit it to a older audience, i really hope they take the gamble. but i remember back when the original was released they found a way to release toys of it. I can't imagine they'll want to miss out on that.

I reckon the studio will brief with 'do a batman begins, adults and children can both enjoy it, plus we can sell toys to children' But robocop is so much darker and visually violent than Begins, and it needs to be.

So he's definetly Murphy? interesting.

I've seen that picture of Downey JNR a few times, was the whole film filmed like that, did he never really wear the full suit. kinda a shame really.

Most of the time it's either half or CGI suit

Back to Robocop

I still get goosebumps when I watch that scene. The whirring and the footsteps, just add to that scene tenfold.

My favorite part is when the score kicks in

Yeah the toys and merchandise potential is massive with the character such as that. I can imagine it will come down to whether it's done for the story or for the money, and we know which one usually wins there!

Has it been covered which company is actually going to be releasing this movie?

i wonder what the film's setting will be like

the original Robocop was like a futuristic present day

Hopefully this movie will be a hard R. We all saw what PG-13 did for this series...

Great news about the casting, he will be excellent. And as for the R statement, I hope so too, but Robocop 2 was terrible as well and that was R. PG-13 was not the one and only problem Robocop 3 had, it had many of the same problems Robocop 2 had, in just that it was not good.

I quite like RoboCop 2. It's not as good as the original but it's still entertaining and kept true to the tone and spirit of the original. I'm not saying the R rating made the first two good, but harsh and bloody violence is something that's in RoboCop's world and should remain.

Yeah, I don't know why it doesn't get much recognition. Is not as great as the original, but I think they did a really good job for a sequel, and yes they kept the tone.
And that robot still gives me the creeps. Honestly, it might be the stop-motion technique, I don't know, but it scared me as a child. I'm not saying it scares me now, but it's very very well done.

Cain is awesome. I think all of the RoboCain scenes and especially the epic David and Goliath-style battle at the end between him and RoboCop is worth the price of admission alone.

Yeah, what it lacks in character development from the first one, it compensates in massacre and action.

it better be rated R and be over the top violent like the first film

Agree, and even with the character development somewhat lacking it's still forgivable since the character stuff is already in the first movie, so you know what the deal is with the likes of Murphy and Lewis going into the second one. I enjoyed RoboCop 2 for what it was, a fun action ride that brought RoboCop back.

Yes, that is true. Plus, is difficult to expand the development of the character. Hopefully they'll add something new to the table on this one.

I do remember, however, that the 'humanity' Murphy recovered at the end of the first film, it kinda evaporated in the second one. Like they dropped that part of the character and still made him a machine. Am I correct? That's what I remember, I haven't seen the movies in a while.

i would think they will go with R, with the director they got. If they were going to go pg 13 or what ever they probably would have gone with some studio hack director who would just be pumping it out for comericialism. Here they got a director who has a good background an would bring a good story along.

Somewhat, but not completely. He did show some signs of being human, like when he comforts Hob as he's dying when he finds him fatally wounded in the van after RoboCain's assault in the warehouse.

Frank Miller shouldn't of been anywhere near the script. Unfortunately he was.

and so what if he was. there has been other writers on it. so anything of millars script could have been dropped.
