Ok, first off, let me say, I don't want this to turn into a macross vs. robotech debate. Because really I don't care. All of macross is presented in pretty much the same way it was released in Japan, it just has two chapters added on at the end.

So, I'm so excited for this movie. I finally got to watch the entire series, Macross, Masters and Generations, and it's a wicked story. But the ending is a terrible cliffhanger.

The previews, both the UN tv spots, and the theatrical teaser are awesome. I can't wait to see what happened to the SDF 3 and all the macross saga characters that left earth on it. And the computer animated/anime look to it is beautiful.

The only thing that is pissing me off, is that it was completed this time last year, then had its release date pushed back to August 5th of this summer. Now, it has been pushed back indefinately until all the marketing nonsense (toys action figs, video games) is reaady for release.

It's really tickn me off. It's been like 20 years since that cliffhanger, and they keep delaying it. This is worse than the wait for Superman Returns after the end of the original superman franchise, because it's a twenty year cliffhanger.

I'll come back and post some links later, and try and plug in some pics. But if you google Robotech shadow chronicles, you'll find everything.

When does this movie come out?

who freiken knows. Honestly, it looks awesome, especially the retelling of the final battle against the invid and the retreat of the regess. Just gonna have to be patient I suppose

did a google, new release date is the 21st of next month (but they didn't announce the push back of the release date this summer, until the actual release date, so don't be suprised if they screw around with you)

I'm confused did they delay it AGAIN?

Funimation just licensed it a few months ago.

I think nov. 21 is the solid date right now

"For those who could not make it to our screenings at the New York Korean Film Festival, here is the latest on the distribution of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles:

Is Funimation rescheduling the DVD release date?

Yes. It is no longer November 21.

Why is Funimation doing this?

- Funimation has an opportunity to have Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles reach a much wider audience. To accomplish this, they need more time to properly market the film.

- A wider theatrical run for Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles requires more time to build a stronger marketing campaign and book more theatres across North America. Theatres have also been demanding longer windows between the theatrical and DVD release dates.

- Funimation is also working on a wider DVD release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles through big box retailers to reach a larger market. Sticking to an aggressive release date would have limited the number of stores that could commit shelf space.

- Releasing Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles at a later date also allows licensees to have more merchandise ready to be released in conjunction with the film.

- To that end, we are working to have Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles screen at more film festivals during this fall to reach audiences that would not normally be exposed to the film. (We plan on making more festival announcements soon.)

We know many of you were excited about purchasing the DVD this fall. However, Funimation is working hard to make sure Robotech will be the success we all want it to be. Thank you for your patience as they will be announcing a new release date soon.

"all in the game." -- Traditional West Baltimore

ok, finally it came out on monday (feb 5th).

I thought it was great. Not perfect, but the great foundation for a new series. The only thing that pissed me off, is after a 20 year cliffhanger, what did they do? That's right, they gave us another cliffhanger. Damn Harmony Gold.

as for the story, it seems pretty cool. And all the characters are good. My only concern is the lack of 'civilians' in the movie. The previous series had a great balance b/w military and civilian life in this crazy robotech world. The Shadow Chronicles is all military.

for chosen: There's a new purple haired stirling for you, the younger daughter of Max and Myria. There is also the brother of Commander Grant from Macross. Ricky Hunter makes a short apperance, as does the SDF3.

It seems that Protoculture has become the 'spice', and that we humans are doomed forever for possessing it.

Hope a seies goes forward, but I feel that the movie should have been a self contained story, not a bloody cliffhanger.

Did they have some of the original theme music from the 80's?

I reallly hope the do :(

yeah, same songs, same theme, the rest of the movie is new stuff

does max sterling make an apearance as well? he was by far the best character

sadly no. All we know is that Mya Sterling said at the end of the movie, that all of her family is on the SDF 3 and that the new war had seperated them.

and yes, it came out on dvd on monday
