Drama Rocky/Creed Cinematic Universe Thread

Stallone really comes across as a bitter dude in recent interviews. That might not be a fair assessment, but that’s what it feels like. It’s kind of a shame.

Stallone has a major film legacy stretching from not just Rocky but Rambo and other projects to this day and is considered an icon. The hell does he have to be bitter about?

It just comes down to that he wants a say in the franchise he created and pass on some ownership to his kids when he dies, which he says will never happen.

Between Avatar 2, Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible, and this, I guess I'll be at the theater for 5 hrs. :o

If I have this right, a lot of the rocky lore and imagery is not his but the studio, he has no say in it and I guess he want sit as part of his legacy to feed his grandkids.

So this movie will be Killmonger and Valkyrie vs Kang? I'm optimistic and looking forward to it.

I’ve enjoyed the Creed movies way more than the original Rocky movies. I think the first Creed is the best of the Rocky franchise. This is probably considered blasphemous because I grew up an hour outside of Philly (which is pretty different than growing up in Philly IMO), but I never quite got the appeal of the Rocky movies. I also don’t get why Rocky and Adrian is considered a great “love story” when he was basically harassing her for most of the movie until she gave in to a date lol.

Booooo!

The first Rocky is a masterpiece!

Also, she was shy, they do show that she likes Rocky’s attention, but has been so mentally abused by Pauly she has zero confidence in herself. I actually think their love story is very realistic, especially for that time. And Adrian grows so much as a character throughout the films, it’s really a loss that Talia Shire doesn’t act much at all anymore. To contrast her character from Godfather to Rocky just a few years later is pretty incredible.

I just love the whole series, even have a soft spot for Rocky V. I love the Creed movies as well, but they especially work better with having the Rocky-verse as their history.

You can’t compare Creed to Rocky movies. Both are made for audience sensibilities at that time. The first Rocky is slower, as most movies of that time. There aren’t quick cuts or pop songs to get your adrenaline going. There’s only one big fight.

I think comparing Rocky I & II to Creed I & II is fair. They're very grounded, no flashy larger than life opponents like in the later Rocky sequels.

I think the Creed underdog story is more genuine than Rocky being an underdog. Creed not ever knowing his father, being raised in foster care until being taken in by his father’s wife (who is not his bio mom and has all the reason in the world to be apathetic toward him as a constant reminder of her husband cheating on her) is just a more emotional story to me than Rocky’s background.

Rocky has no family, and lives exremely poor in Philadelphia about to turn 30. Nobody believes in him and it's only a fluke that he gets picked because of his nickname Italian Stallion.

Adonis grew up in foster care, but had a privileged life afterwards and was completely loved by his foster mother. He had a shot to his name because of the Creed legacy.

I think what works about both films is that they're both underdogs but in completely different ways. Adonis has to prove his own legacy being under the shadow of his father. Rocky has to create his own from nothing.

This doesn’t really seem like a movie that will be enhanced by IMAX
