Rocky Horror remake coming to Fox

I don't know that I'd say parody, but it definitely looks like they're relying too heavily on riffing off the movie, rather than making it their own.

It isn't surprising (to me at least) that Laverne seems to be the weakest link. Im guessing they didn't exactly make her jump through any hoops to get the role.

so its aired in the US (i missed it, but i'll be streaming it soon). watched the OG RHPS recently because Tim Curry is God :mnm:. oh and the music, thats not so bad either :woot:

i stumbled on this vid, apparently they released this earlier? i really like this opener, its a good combo of the stage version and the movie version methinks:

also first time ive heard of this Ivy Levan and i am FLOORED  she should be the next big thing, because i liked this opener better than the movie version (probly the only thing i'll like better than the movie version :woot: i know i already miss Curry's beautiful weirdness with Laverne's genuinely gorgeous Trans-ness)

I thought it was pretty good, but then again I am not a huge fan of the Tim Curry film or the original musical in general.

It was ok but Laverne was one of the weakest links, especially when it came to her singing.

ok so i finally managed to watch the remake.....

... i was right, the Usherette was the best thing i liked about it :woot:. the presence of Ivy and the presentation is just amazing. major kudos on the producers on this.

the rest of the film, in general, had a clearer presentation than the OG RHPS, which is a really good thing, since the OG was kinda a mess. i understood the "plot" better in this, even when its obvious that they changed a few things. also theres plenty of homages to the OG RHPS, which i greatly appreciate, very clever how they managed to add them in without them being too distracting.

the next best thing about this remake is Adam Lambert, which although he did a fantastic job as Eddie, i felt was underutilized given his talent. yeah he was originally approached for Dr Frank, and he turned it down, which is a missed opportunity for the production and for himself. he had that extra something that this RHPS lacked, yes Laverne as Dr Frank is gorgeous, and there is a triumph in the fact that a Trans person plays a Trans person, but something is missing. theres a weirdness in Curry's portrayal, a kind of glamorous androgyny thats changed with Laverne in the role. the glamour is aplenty, that much is obvious-- heck the best Laverne scene is the Dont Dream It Be It number in the end-- but the fact that Dr Frank is supposed to be literally out of this world queer is kinda lost on Laverne. she's more Divalicous than Bizarrely Attractive.

i will say though, given how things have changed, that the forbidden fruit aspect of the temptation in the bedroom is stronger between Dr Frank and Brad in that its more traditional hetero-adultary (for lack of a better term) than the exploration of homoeroticism. the latter couldve been achieved with Janet, but i think production held back, and i dont understand why, specially in this day and age.

anyway, its a good, less racy version of RHPS. i appreciate the new songs (or i think were new as i didnt recognize them from the OG) and the arrangement of the tracks, this will make a great album :mnm:

edit: *smacks self for forgetting the most significant part of this remake* TIM CURRY! ok i WISHED he had a bigger role, maybe of Dr Scott so he can flash those gorgeous legs again, but yeah he had been unwell these past few years but i feel BLESSED that he managed to do a bit in this movie given his condition, but at the same time i feel so crushed that a talented man like that-- who i KNOW can still pull Dr Frank despite his age-- is incapacitated. got a bit misty in the end with him fading to black there.
