I always liked the psp and I loved my vita and after the new update on the portal I am enjoying it even more! I will definitely welcome a successor to the PSP/Vita

The only reason this would succeed if we can play the same games in PS5/6 in this new handheld. I don't think Sony and other studios, can dedicate own time to just make separate games for a handheld Sony console. The PSVR2 aren't getting high profiled exclusive games and PS Vita suffered from lack of support/games. Games take much longer time to make than in 2014 to 2016.

if they are planning to make a successor to PSP and Vita, that can't handle the same games as the current Sony console, it won't end with great results.
