Rumor: WW Movie Is Not Going To Happen

But they brought her back, in a fantastic story arc.
:)

That's true. But thats no evidence a film would sell.

I'll play along and assume you work at WB. Whats the word on the Superman Returns Sequel? Will it happen? And whats the general reaction to Bryan Singer at the studio?

Im not a executive, I can't answer all those but I can ask around for you? I know someone else wanted to know what the villians are going to be etc.
I know Brandon has been here a few times over the last couple monthes so thats progress, and singer's company is still here so thats a plus.
Did you like the last movie?

If you really work for WB, maybe you can answer this question, since I don't understand the whole deal..

How could anyone take legal action against the WB over a Wonder Woman script? WW is a copyrighted character; owned by...Warner. If anything, aren't the script writers commiting infringment?
Tell that to Christopher Reeve when he was alive regarding Superman 4. Two guys wrote a script, unauthorized, and registered it with the writers guild. Chris, Warner's and company got sued for S4 by those guys even though they didn't meet with those guys or use their script.

Yes. Thanks for the PM.

This movie is never going to happen, inside sources say that WB and Silver Pictures do not feel the film will make any money and the public opinion has shifted dramatically.
Joss leaving indicates that this film is dead in the water.
WB will most likely shelf this picture in the next few weeks.

*Also noted that Joel and WB have moved onto Speed Racer with the Wachowski's (The Matrix, who have now moved back to the WB lot) and have several other projects lines up following that.
Whether Joss or anyone else dropped out has no impact, the film is about to be shelved anyway.

Just wanted to know what you mean by "public opinion has shifted dramatically" Shifted against Super Hero movies or female action movies? Cuz there's no evidence that the appetite for Super Hero movies is going away, and if you mean shifting away from female action films, then sadly the public opinion has never been in favor of them.

Any other behind the scenes gossip would be nice. Last I heard, DC Comics had assigned their own "Avi Arad" to Warners so to speak, someone to make sure there was creative fidelity to the actual DC properties Warners is planning to make movies about. I can't remember the guy's name, but there were articles in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter about him. His job is gonna be pretty easy if all he has to worry about is Superman and Batman movies.

This boggles my mind.

So this means I could write my own Green Lantern script, then sue WB when they decide to make a movie based on their own copyrighted character?

There's something seriously wrong with that.

I work at WB but I am no means a executive or anything. I just have worked here for close to 7 years and know alot of friendly folks here on the lot.
Mostly production ,and I have two good friends who work directly with David Goyar and Joel Silver.
I have no idea about legal issues, copyrights etc.
They went ahead and put out Catwoman though noone wanted to see it, but are having trouble with WW?

At least they got Batman right, and with filming now taking place, I look forward to the Dark Knight. I am going to find out if they are replacing Katie Holmes or writing out the character. To me, she is not required for the sequel. I'd rather see Vicky Vale.

But who knowns WW could find its way, Superman was in limbo for over ten years and finally got made, so theres hope yet. I personally don't think its a great idea to make WW though. I'd rather see a new Supergirl etc.

Since you work in the industry you should be wary of rumors, Selene. Never say never, as they say.

I never cared for the Rachel character or Katie Holmes, so I don't care about that development. But if WB is deciding not to pursue other hero titles then cartoons are the only stage left for now. There aren't many Harry Potter titles left to pursue.

The market has no room for another superhero, comic book character on film. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men not to mention Sin City, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Transformers.
The entire spectrum of films as a whole has to change before anymore superhero, comic book type characters can be unleashed. No Wonder Woman, no Flash, no Green Lantern, no Capt. Marvel. They will all fail and the studios know it.

Ummm....no I don't think its a bad idea to keep making superhero movies (after all, why would we have this forum??). Over the past couple of years, the superhero movie has become a complex, hybrid film genre of its own. Sure it could be "milking an idea dry," but its just right for Hollywood. You see all kinds of stock characters, plots, iconography, etc. all from superheroes.
After the failure of Batman and Robin and so many other cheesy, kiddie action flicks, people disregarded the concept. But than with X-Men in 2000, Spider-Man in 2002 it became a respected genre again. Now we expect every superhero to be made into his/her own movie, and with all these popular DC characters other than Superman and Batman absent from the big screen, something's gotta happen.

Go look up the whole writers suing Christopher Reeve/Warner's for Superman 4 fiasco. After it Reeve said he would never done the costume again.

Upside: they can use her in "Smallville" now :D

WB has got to quit messing around. They've got the most popular canon of heroes, and the only movie franchises they've got going on for decades have been Batman and Superman (and the Vertigo titles, don't forget them). Meanwhile, Marvel has been hard at work cranking out dozens of their properties, so much so that now they've got their own independant film branch, while Warner Bros, the studio that essentially owns the rights to all the DC characters, only has :super: and :batty: (and remember how long it took to get them made?)

We keep hearing about the WW movie and the GL movie and the Flash movie, but every one of them stalls again and again. I hope with the continued success of "Smallville" and the "Justice League" cartoon, we'll start seeing a dramatic change in this trend. Like now.

Superhero movies are now a genre, like war films or romantic comedies...there will continue to be superhero films made...whether or not WW will be one of them i dont know. Obviously everyone in this thread is an employee of warner Brothers, but I unfortunately only sweep the floors at night when the executives are gone, so I cant shed any light on this subject.

oh alright i'll play along, just cuz its slow going everywhere else today...

ok Selene, if they're gonna be shelving Wonder Woman, how about that quote the IESB folks here that WW is on the fast track? i mean in terms of reliability on inside info, they're pretty much as reliable as you claim yourself to be (no offense). and it doesnt make any sense to buy a spec script just so that it would collect dust on somebody's shelf? why so that no one else would film WW other than WB? so what? as was already mentioned WB owns the rights to the character, if they're avoiding a Superma 4 incident what's keeping the next guy from placing his WW script from making the rounds? what if that script is better than the one WB just got, will WB buy that one too? (because if they will, then maybe i should start putting the finishing touches on mine and get it out there ;)). dont you think that its gonna starting looking ridiculous, lots of WW scripts will be mushrooming around if WB just buys scripts to keep it off the market. how sure are you of your rumour info?

and besides, if WB stopping all productions efforts for other superhero movies other than Superman and Batman is that a way of saying their throwing in the proverbial towel and letting Marvel win the superhero movie race? you know that Marvel would most likely come up with an Avengers movie somewhere down the line right? what will WB's answer to that be?

I never said anything about other superhero films, there going to make quite a few of them. I said Wonder Woman.. And that is what I heard they are going to shelf the project while Joel Moves onto other projects. Usually when they say that its over. Not all the time though, Im sure if the right director came on board they may change their minds. But alot of good superhero projects have been shelved.
Batman Vs Superman comes to mind, Superman Lives etc. Ten years Superman stalled. This is just another case.

People who have been working on it, said its a nightmare.

I love superhero films and Hope they continue to make them.

And as far as quoting on internet or anywhere else, those are never going to be the most accurate because it is a business, there going to say positive things, they will never say anything negative about a project.
Lets hope they have a change of heart
And i'd rather see WW on smallville myself and have a nice Justice league film.

Hey Selene you make some pretty interesting points, and i personally dont care much for a wonder woman movie not saying i wouldnt like to see one but dont favor it, now i would like to know if you knew anything about bringing other DC properties to the big screen, especially the rumors of Shawn Levy on Flash and anythign on Green Lantern, and has there been any talk of a Justice league or Teen Titans film.

thank you

I'm not Selene but here is what I think on the subject. Green Lantern has the best chance for success. Teen Titans would be c.g.i. at best, and Justice League, the one they should have done first, will probably be done last. Go figure.

I love that the WB doesn't believe in a Wonder Woman movie but they believed in a Catwoman movie.

They really didn't believe in Catwoman. Nor did they make any effort for it to be made well. What happened was, after Wolfgang Peterson pulled out of Superman vs. Batman, WB was left with a hole in their summer lineup. They green-lit and rushed Catwoman through production simply to fill that hole.

IMDB has never been & will never be a reliable source. I will believe this when I see it. IMDB is the last site to believe
