I understand that Kurt Busiek will be writing the "Final Crisis" series that will follow on from the current "Countdown" series. And remember, Busiek always wins!

I may understand wrong of course. But that's what I'm told and I'm sticking with it.

So what is "Countdown" counting down to anyway?

I was skeptic at first about another crisis after all these events and the "final" is just laughable. But Kurt Busiek onboard is VERY good news.Maybe this is Kurt's big DC project that's been in the works and rumored for some time.

Busiek dropped Aquaman to write a super-secret project. So could well be true.

I'll look forward to it as well Busiek is easily one of my favourite writers.

I'm beginning to rather strongly believe that DC should've never had any Crisis to begin with.

I'm in the same boat. Crisis on Infinite Earths was way before my time, so I learned about it after all its changes had crystalized into the DC universe I knew growing up, so I'm not really able to comment on that one objectively. Infinite Crisis, on the other hand, had a great build-up but mostly sucked. Busiek's involvement this time around intrigues me, since he's one of my favorite writers as well. I'll be hoping for a DC counterpart to Avengers Forever, but I can't help feeling that the whole thing is just overkill right from the start.

As I said in another thread...
Okay, originally, sure DC's multiple earth thing was a bit confusing. But, at least, each character had a pretty straightforward continuity. Katar Holl was from Thanagar, Carter Hall was from St. Roch. Simple.

Then COIE happened. And all of those crazy Earths got merged. Suddenly, half of certain characters histories were totally erased (Batman, the Justice League). Other characters had their histories COMPLETELY wiped out (Superman, Wonder Woman). And, worst of all, you had characters who's histories were totally ****ed in general (Hawkman).

All of that revision and confusion was done simply to remove the (really rather simple) idea of there being multiple earths. Even though that in itself seemed like a bad idea, I can understand it as, at least, we now only had one DC earth to deal with, and now one set continuity for everyone.

But then, Infinite Crisis came around - and not only erased tons of continuity AGAIN (Both Superman and Wonder Woman now have no official origin) - but now we're back to have a ton of multiple earths who's continuities and relationships with each other are more confusing and complex than they ever were pre-COIE.

So yeah, what do we have now? What did COIE accomplish? Everything it did and set out to do was totally erased and made worse by Infinite Crisis. And even when you sight some of the good things about the continuity erasing COIE did - like removing the campy Batman stories - Infinite Crisis and the current DC writing staff has brought a good deal of those stories back into the fold.

So yeah, COIE and IC, in the end, were really pointless, and really did nothing but make a confusing universe even more confusing.

In Busiek I trust. But seriously DC, get the **** over it.

Jeeze DC has as many titles with the word crisis as marvel does WAR.
New idea time guys

They should have waited another twenty years.

Like, really. Really really.

But...we'll...see how this goes, I guess.

...

That's good to know at least. I dig Kurt Busiek's work but I'd have rather have seen him go over to Marvel and write some Spider-Man or something. :csad:

I wish we could go back to the time when comics were less about stringing together "epic super-arc" after "epic super-arc", and were more about just telling great standalone stories.

I'm waiting for the "Crisis of Infinite Crises."

I'm beginning to rather strongly believe that DC should've never had any Crisis to begin with.

Im hearing this more and more.Ive heard from people who were around during the first Crisis, and they said it was generally a good story.DC had 50+ years of continuity, and it needed to be fixed.I understand that, but with the constant event after event. That special feeling has been lost, the feeling that the event..really was an event..and it was done for readers. Not for profit...

It may have needed to be fixed, but COIE certainly didn't fix it; it just made everything worse, as did IC.

I'm not criticizing COIE as a story - it's probably a very great one - but I just think it really didn't do anything good for the DC Universe.

Well I like what Busiek is doing on Superman so I trust this will be good. I just hope this will really be the final crisis.

Does not really matter that it's named Crisis - I bet it will be based around the Great Disaster.

If it wasn't a Crisis it would be another summer event.

Now will DC be rebooting after this crisis again or will the Multi-Universe stay around?

I certainly hope so.

And the big two will stop doing all these events when people stop buying them, sadly.

Sweeping events are the foil covers and holographic covers of this period in comics.

So you're buying two copies right?:o

You know I'm sick of these huge sweeping arcs. Right now my favorite run in comics is Detective. Its a bunch of one or two book shots. Batman back to basics. I wish that mentality would work in more comics. Enough Wars, and crisis crap.
