Iron Man Running Time?

Another thing to look at is that IMO most of those movies sucked, but not because of their runtime. You could add an extra 2 hours to Elektra and it would have still sucked. They were just bad from the screenplay level. The one exception I see right off the bat would be DD. I know that cutting that down made it a much worse movie than the director's cut.

But even the director's cut isn't a good movie. I think MSJ ain't a good writer / director, especially for movies such as Daredevil or Ghost Rider.

I agree about MSJ. Just imagine what DD could have been if Chris Nolan had directed it.:cwink:

Fair enough. I found it to be a much better movie, but it just proves that the running time of the movie wasn't what made it bad.

As for MSJ, I thought he was okay after seeing DD: Director's Cut, but I don't know anymore after Ghostrider. I was just not a fan at all of that movie. Part of me wants to give him another chance because he seems like a pretty cool guy (from what I've read on these boards) but I just don't know.

BTW, I've been away for a while. Is he still doing Preacher for HBO?

Johnson just doesn't really know how to handle a movie or a super hero character on film.

Ghost Rider was just so stupid and lame. The performances were weak. It never really felt fun and exciting or really dark. The villains were terrible and laughably bad. There was nothing really sinister about them.

As long as the film is quality through and through, the run time doesn't mean sh-t.

MTV: How long a running time are you shooting for?

Favreau: Probably between [an hour and 45 minutes and two hours]. I don't think it should go much longer than two. We have to see how it plays.

from the newest interview.

1hr45 min. like X-Men 1 & 3 to just under 2hrs like the Bourne Triology & 300 is fine by me.

X-men 3 sucked though and was only 95 minutes without credits.

It seems Favreau though is changing his tune from the original time of an hour and a half. Unless he's fudging it by meaning with credits.

It is in the range I wanted, 1:45 to 2:00 hrs is great IMHO, of course I am hoping it is closer to 2hrs :woot:

I'm glad to hear the film will be longer than previously reported, the longer the better for me,IMO.

120 minutes sounds good to me. I hope Favreau takes his time with the characters. He has such an amazing cast that I'm waiting for the intimate scenes as much as the big action scenes. The action is interesting only if the audience has feelings for the characters. Or at least that's the way I see it. So rushing through character-related stuff and story-related things is not something you can compensate with flashy action scenes.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Mask were good movies. And he said just under 2 hours running time, not 90-100 minutes. And he said super hero, not comic book.

To each his own but i find neither of those movies anything special, the first MIB was another great 90 SH movie, but again, the evidence is there, the longer SH movies tend to be the better one's.

Exactly, 120 mins sounds perfect to me as well, it gives room for character and story as well as action scene's.

There is a huge difference between 1:45 and 1:55... anything in between is acceptable I guess... but you really want it to be more than 1:50... those extra five minutes could give you the scene that makes the film... or at least gives you an additional opportunity to make that perfect scene. It didn't work with TLS... Rogue and Angel were non existent... you want to avoid putting yourself in that situation.

well, Favreau said it would be between 1hr and 45min and 2 hours.
I really hope it's 2 hours. it gives enough time to develop the characters and have awesome action sequences.

I agree with all of your points. MSJ should never direct a superhero movie again.

I prefer 2 hours as well... it sucks when a movie ends and it feels rushed. Take your time, let the actors act and tell a good story and everyone will enjoy it.

I hope it's 2 hours...1:30-1:45 movies always make you feel a little shorted/jipped when they're over.

Exactly, TLS should have been at least 135 mins with all of the characters it had. I dont think this run-time will be necessary for IM, but some around the 2 hour mark should be provided IMO.

I agree with you both, 2 hours just always seems more satisfying IMO, so i hope he goes with that runtime.

To be honest you could make a one hour movie out of Iron Man. C'mon, what is there? He makes the Mark1, escapes captivity, makes the Mark 2, flies around a bit, makes the Mark 3, defeats enemies, The End. Thanks for the Five Quid, now get out!

It all depends how one pads it out, obviously we all want a five hour movie plus sequels. I remember seeing Spider-Man 3, and being gutted there was no proper ending.

I think with 1 charactor to develope, Stark, 105 to 120 minutes including credits would be plenty. They should be able to get to the story rather quickly. As Danny said it is a pretty simple charactor, and superhero. Stark/IRON MAN is not complicated. Not a whole lot of time is needed for the setup. The important thing will be pace so it doesn't drag in spots, because the charactor is so uncomplacated.
