Ryan Coogler IS Marvel's 'Black Panther' Director

Steve McQueen. That is the only guy I want. Maybe Lee Daniels. With an assist from John Singleton.

I'd think he's a better fit for the solo Batfleck movie -- his debut film Hunger blew me away with its intensity and stark cinematography. I can't see him doing lighter MCU fare.

It's encouraging to see Duvernay being courted for BP or CM. Although the reason Marvel approaches directors like her, the Russos, Gunn, et al is because they're likely to make their films on time and under budget.

elmaybe is hinting about Rick Famuyiwa being in talks for this

Me and Fiege would reenact a certain limo scene featuring Kingpin from the Daredevil show if he ever even thought of hiring that hack...

Same here.

Lee Daniels is just Tyler Perry with a better reputation.

I wouldn't mind seeing Forest Whitaker direct this. Marvel has hired actor/directors before with Kenneth Branagh.

So I guess I shouldn't move forward with this fancast of Daniels as the director of the Myth Smith movie. :sly:

I personally think it should be Steve McQueen and save Ava Duvernay for Captain Marvel. But that's just me...

Steve McQueen is all wrong for the entire MCU, imo. His films are amazing but they also have a very distinctive tone that is absolutely humorless. I could see him adjusting his style for something darker in the DCCU, but not so much w/ Marvel. I like Dr. Evil's choice of F. Gary Gray. He could do a great job, imo.

Not a fan of Ava Duvernay, but if she's gotta direct one, she seems like a better fit for BP than something so fantastical as Captain Marvel.

F. Gary Gray is my top choice, followed by Ryan Coogler and Antoine Fuqua.

But my darkhorse candidate remains Don Cheadle. He's already a part of the MCU and will be featured more prominently in the future (I loved his brief appearance in Age of Ultron because of the fact that he actually got involved in the action) and with an appearance in Civil War, it's very possible he'll interact with Chadwick Boseman. If his Miles Davis film ever sees the light of day and gets significant awards buzz, especially for Cheadle, it would mean that Marvel already has a critically acclaimed director working for them, albeit on the other side of the camera as an actor. Since he already knows the MCU, perhaps he will be able to comply to what Marvel wants to see from BP.

All my choices for a bp director

1. F. Gary Gray (go see the Negotiator if you haven't)
2. Doug Liman
3. John Ridley
4. Rick Famuyiwa
5. Ava Duvernay(I feel her movies are a bit slow but she might change the tone)
6. Antoine Fuqua (highly doubt it though since he is doing Magnificient Seven)
7. Pete Travis
8. Hughes Brothers (As long as the script is tight)
9. Mathew Vaughn (That would be Amazing)
10. Ryan Coogler

Overall, I want a director that would take the black panther brand and make it his own just like the way Bryan Singer took the X-Men and made it to be his own property even though it had some flaws hat might have pissed fans off, it is still a successful franchise globally

6. Antoine Fuqua (highly doubt it though since he is doing Magnificient Seven)

Fuqua is my favorite for this film, although I'm not locked into one particular choice.

I don't think Magnificent Seven would prevent him from taking this project as well. MS is shooting right now, and will be released in January of 2017. Black Panther isn't due until July of 2018. We don't even know when they'll begin shooting at this point, but I would guess it won't be until early to mid 2017.

- F. Gary Fray
- Antoine Fuqua
- RZA (from the Wu Tang Clan)

RZA? F**k no

Marvel ain't that naive to go on that direction

I think the most important part is hiring a competent screenwriter to write BP. You can have the best director to make your movie but if the script is weak, the there is no chance that the film will be great i.e Tomorrowland

You'd have a well-directed POS, we all know you can't polish a turd.

Anyway, Rick Famuyiwa would be a better fit for spider-man imo. John Singleton, the Hughes Bros., and Ryan Coogler all sound fine to me. Lots of good choices all around. I really like the suggestion of Don Cheadle, I could see that happening.
