Inside Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, a Revisionist Homage to Golden Age Tinseltown

There’s F-bombs, so I can’t post it, but the trailer is up.

Ryan Murphy’s work is hit or miss with me. I really liked People vs OJ and the Assassination of Versace series. American Horror Story is all over the place, some I liked and some I didn’t like. And I hated Glee

This looks interesting and I’m a fan of the golden age of Hollywood so I’ll check it out. Plus, after Versace I have become a fan of Darren Chris. Guy is a good actor

This looks so hokey to me. The idea is smart but the execution is all wrong. So on the nose that it takes away the power of the premise.

This was trash, but entertaining enough, I guess. I put it about on par with The Politician. Both had some of Ryan Murphy's worst tendencies on full display.

Jake Picking and Laura Harrier were distractingly awful, imo, but everyone else was good.

Just finished it but I agree, it was very well produced trash. I know it’s a revisionist Hollywood tale but the fantasy of it all and Ryan Murphy’s predilections overpowered the story. Everyone from Patti LuPone to Queen Latifah gave good performances though, but they should’ve given more time to Anna May Wong’s arc to give her resolution more meaning. But it was entertaining. I wanted to punch Jim Parsons in the face a couple times so he deserves whatever noms he gets.

I want Laura Harrier to keep winning, but she cannot emote to save her damn life.

Sidebar, but was it just me or did you get Superman vibes from the actor that played Jack? He looks like he could be either Clark or Cyclops.

My man, I’ve been a conductor on the Corenswet-for-Supes train since he was first suggested in the Supes casting thread back in September and I watched him in the Politician. I’ve never gotten such strong Supes vibes from an actor before, not even Henry, whom I had been championing for the role since The Tudors. And I can safely say you and I are definitely not the only ones getting that vibe either. Just search his name on Twitter. Hell, there have been articles about it, lol. WB better wake up!

This show was pretty mediocre. Also i'll add to the sentiment that Laura Harrier was terrible, this is the third thing I've seen her in and she's still as wooden as ever as an actress. She's lucky she has her looks.

This show was pretty trashy, but in all honesty I still kind of loved it. Sure it got a little hokey and melodramatic at times, but damn was it almost always entertaining. I really didn't think any of the performances were that bad either, although Laura Harrier and Jake Picking are probably the least interesting characters in the show. Loved Dylan McDermott's character and David Corenswet was definitely made to play Clark Kent/Superman.The guy is pretty damn good actor and even somewhat looks like Cavill. Jim Parsons really surprised me as well in this since I have never seen him play this sort of character, but he definitely steals the show in certain scenes.

Ok I ended up continuing this and I actually quite liked it in the end? It’s schmaltzy but it’s nice seeing the good guys win.

I wonder what they would do with a second season? It might be fun to set it in the 60s psychedelia, like a once upon a time in Hollywood but super queer and watchable?
