I'm playing on a 40" 1080p HDTv and I've got a PS3, 360, Wii, and my satellite box exhausting almost every hi-res/HD output available.

I have only 2 component outputs and now I'm having to share them between my Wii, the 360, and the satellite box. There isn't room for all 3.

Now, I'm thinking that maybe I should switch the Wii on to S-Video instead and get some S-video cables.

My question is, won't the S-Video connection and the component look pretty much the same anyway, since Wii's max resolution is 480p? Am I losing out by much by switching my Wii from component to S-Video? Or should I just go through the trouble with switching up my cable connections every single time I switch between the 360 and the Wii?

as far as I know s-video is not capable of progressive scan so the most you will get is 480i. Component is the best possible picture at 480p and playing it on an HDTV, I think its pretty necesary.

Does your satelite box have HDMI output? Most nowadays do. Assuming your tv has HDMI, Id suggest getting an HDMI cable for that and free up that component connection

Yeah, it does have HDMI output, but for some reason, the HDMI causes a little bit of visual distortion with my satellite box. It's not very noticeable, I suppose.

When I switched from the standard RCA cables to Component, in order to go from 480i to 480p, I honestly did not notice much of a difference. I'd be hard pressed to point out what it changed.

I don't know anything about S-Video though, I just used to RYW wires that came with the wii.

I cant comment on the Wii as I havent used composite cables on it but I know I saw a dramatic difference between composite and component cables on my old SDTV when using them with my PS2 and that was with games that did not feature 480p. The first game I used the component cables with was FFXII and I couldnt beleive I didnt buy them earlier bc they made everything so much crisper, sharper and the colors were more vibrant. Ever since then, Ive been sold on component and will only ever use them when given a choice between it and composite
