Saltburn (dir. Emerald Fennell)

I like that I still don’t really know what this is about even after watching the trailer.

Also, considering it feels like roughly 85 years will pass before we see Keoghan’s Joker again, this will be a nice little treat.

Looks even better than anticipated. Visually rich and Keoghan is always worth the watch.

This looks great. The rise of Emerald Fennell continues.

Also more trailers should be like this where they don’t actually spell out the plot of the movie. I hope future trailers don’t give away too much either,

Me: "Man, this film has been heavy on the mid-2000s needle drops, surprised that they haven't played The Killers..."

*Characters sing Mr Brightside*

"Ah, there we go."

This movie was wild, sometimes over-the-top, but I really enjoyed it. The ending was a bit heavy-handed in explaining events that were implied subtextually. But other than that, this movie was great and took a major, unexpected turn in the latter half.

Yeah I was not expecting this movie to go where it did but I really enjoyed it.

Watched this on Prime. It felt like a modern Talented Mr Ripley. It’s beautifully shot and well acted but didn’t really do it for me.

Yeah it is kind of a reimagined Talented Mr. Ripley, only even more warped. The actors were all great, even if Keoghan looks too old at times (somehow he goes back and forth between looking like a 12-year-old and a 30-year old lol). There are some genuinely shocking scenes in this; it goes places I didn’t expect, at least from a creep-you-the-hell-out standpoint.

Same, I feel like the message and themes went all over the place. Also if they made that last section of the film the whole film, it would be better.

Its better than Ripley imo. Improves upon the themes, way better imagery/symbolism etc. littered through it, and honestly... I kinda always thought Damon's Ripley was pretty corny/lacking in terms of portraying a sociopath. This feels much closer in terms of that.

The Ripley comparisons are getting pretty tiresome tbh. It feels like such a reduction. Its way more than that. This feels like an even worse case of "Joker is just Taxi Driver/King of Comedy" all over again.

I completely agree. I liked the film but mostly because of everything that went down towards the end.

I had this sort of delayed reaction to the
grave scene
where as I watched it I was pretty much like "Oh, I guess this is happening now" and then a few minutes later my brain caught up as if to say, "Wait, WTF did I just see?!". I blame that on having watched Poor Things a few hours before so I was already deep in desensitization for the day.

The ending felt a little too “now we’re going to change what you thought was happening, aren’t we clever?” when I suspected the whole time he was manipulating them.

The talent was there. And definitely is a movie that will make for interesting conversations. I’m glad we are getting these type of movies again to break up the franchise bloat.

I thought this was okay, but nothing too special. And yes, it was fairly obvious what was going on throughout.

I didn't think this was as provocative or gripping as the reactions say. Great performances across the board though.

For Valentine's Day clearly.

I watched last night and it was fine, thought Barry was great. Woke up this morning and my thoughts on it have improved considerably

Barry is one of the most interesting actors working today, I think one Matt Reeves struck gold when he did

Yeah I’m really looking forward to seeing more of his Joker. Though I wouldn’t mind if Reeves made him a little less horrifying physically. Because damn.
