Sam Hamm's original B'89 script

Despite all the last minute re-writes, B89, turned out great. The only thing I would change is Alfred letting Vicki Vale into the batcave.

i'd like to keep little things from the original draft, like Bruce's meditation/super REM sleep thing. it shows he's trained in some bizarre ways.

In the script and even in the final shooting script, Vicki just gets let into Bruce's Study, where he falls asleep into his flashback. It's clear in the scripts and the novelization that Vicki figured out the secret on her own, as opposed to the movie, where you get the vibe that Alfred just cut to the chase.

the ending with the joker's tank coming out of a float during the parade was very...Animal House

I always liked the action sequence in the scripts which takes place after Joker arrives at Vicki's aparment. This was kept in the shooting draft and is in the novel, but they didn't film it and instead went for the "you wanna get nuts!" stuff. I always thought it was weird that Joker shows up but doesn't kidnap her.

Neh. Alfred spent the whole movie telling Bruce not to toy with Vicki's feelings because of his Batman obssession but he wouldn't listen. He had it coming, really.

I quite like the way 'brand x' is portrayed as an act of terror, the threat seems a lot more emotive in script compared to the film.

I also like the hints Hamm gives about Batman's past and his suit. Batman telling Vicki that he discovered the cave when he was a kid and was terrified of bats. And saying that his armor is better than Kevlar and why he wears the target on his chest. Maybe unnecessary dialogue but I like it.

Yeah, Burton didn't make that clear enough. Vicki figures out after Knox says, "What do you think something like this does to a kid?"

What are you on about batattack?
And cheers vbmenu_register("postmenu_12099431", true); Doc, I guess I can be articulate at times, when the mood is right.

What this film needed was better action and fight scenes. I'm happy with what I got but it could have been SO MUCH BETTER! Its sad that the chase scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is better than the one in Batman! :csad:

I love how the novelization is more like the script. Like how the Joker tricked vicki into meeting him at the museum (he made Alicia disguise her voice as Vicki to convince Alfred). And it includes the Horseback riding scene as well as a totally different dinner afterwards with Bruce and Vicki.

I think the script is much better than the finished film. It's really a fantastic piece of work, and Hamm is an excellent screenwriter.

what? In the film, Joker, pretends to be Bruce Wayne and invites her to the museum. She was gonna be late and called Alfred to tell Bruce. And thats how he found out what was going on.

So, I don't see what Alicia pretending to be Vicki and tricking Alfred has to do with anything. Unless Joker planned on killing Bruce.

You're right, lol. I don't know what the hell I was talking about earlier today (I'm on painkillers).... so woops! sorry about that...:O :o x1000

Just finished reading this the other day and it's really good.

I wish they had left in all the Knox stuff as it was a really interesting way of doing the love triangle thing and I especially loved the bit of Joker giving the board meeting to the corpses with the "We got 'em rolling in the aisles!" line.

I noticed the scene where Bruce visits the alley and lays down the two roses isn't in Hamm's script. The film wouldn't have been as great without that scene.

One of the late Warran Skarron's great ideas. That scene was perfect, as it got the brains of the uninitiated going, and they found out Bruce's trauma alongside Vicki.
