EXCLUSIVE: Sam Raimi Hopes To Start Shooting 'Spider-Man 4' In March 2010

In an exclusive conversation with MTV News on Friday, franchise director Sam Raimi reveled that if all goes according to plan, shooting will begin early next year.

"We're hoping that it's the first week in March," said Raimi.
At the moment, pre-production is in full swing, even as screenwriter Gary Ross ("great director and a very fine writer," said Raimi) continues to work on the script.
"He's working on a draft," he continued. "I just gave him some notes and he's doing a rewrite right now."

On other fronts, "Spider-Man 4" continues to chug along. "The production is starting to come together," Raimi told us. "I've got a production designer who is starting to design the sets and the environments that the picture will take place in. We just brought aboard Scott Stokdyk as one of the two visual effects supervisors, and I worked with him on all three 'Spider-man' pictures."

With Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst set to reprise their roles, Raimi and his team will soon turn their attention to filling out the rest of the cast. "None of the casting has really taken place, but we're starting to think about that now," the director said.

Our chat with Raimi was a wide-ranging one, filled with talk about where he wants to take the Peter Parker character, which villain(s) might be showing up on the big screen, and much, much more. Check back in the coming days for more
exclusive Spidey news.

Cool news! And it looks as though there could be more news forthcoming.

Cant frickin waaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt

How is it great news when it was originally set for February and has now been pushed back a month? Fanboys getting excited for delays now? Not that it's a big deal, it's just that we have know about it for a while.

I wonder what new crew members will come on board for SM-4. I actually think we'll get a new cinematographer and production designer, because Raimi hasn't indicated that Bill Pope and Neil Spisak will return. I fully expect Raimi to keep the same editor and composer (Bob Murawski and Christopher Young) for the fourth outing.

glad Raimi has full control over SM4

Can't wait to hear about which villian or villains they will be using in this.

I'm crossing my fingers that Dunst/Mary Jane won't be a total whiny ***** in this one.

That's what I meant in the other thread :)

The scale of this movie will be smaller than Spider-Man 3 (i think) so i don't really see this as a big problem. And like the last two films i suspect that they'll start shooting 2nd unit before March to give themselves a head start.

I'd much rather they take their time writing a good script (one everyone agrees on) than rushing things.:o

That might be the case though i doubt it since Pope and Spisak appear to be free. Back in the summer Raimi and co. did however hire someone new to the Spidey films; Tino Schaedler.

Exacty my thought! For some people in here, every little thing is

^^ Well, you have to understand, we don't get alot of Spider-Man 4 news daily, so we get excited about the smallest things.

You should take a look at the Superman boards. The complete lack of any news on any forthcoming movie leads to threads like this:

On the topic of Spider-Man 4, I am cautiously apprehensive towards it. I refuse to allow myself to start "looking forward to it" until I get some casting news, villain announcements, etc. The over-hype of Spider-Man 3 led to crushing disappointment and I don't want to suffer the same fate with Spider-Man 4. Hopefully the brake from the franchise and the great Drag me to Hell have given Raimi time to think over a great new chapter in the Spidey films and the lack of producer interference should lead to better results. However news like Papajohn being back yet again only dampen my anticipation.
It's good to know that pre-production is in full swing though and that the movie will start shooting soon.

^ Thats why I dont put "I trust in Sam Raimi" in my sig. I'm looking forward to it regardless but my expectations are going to be lower beacuse of what went down last time.

I hope Pope is back as he has a great eye. He may only do a lot of blockbusters these days, but he has a great visual style to everything he touches and SM2 looked just so classy and cinematography was one of the best aspects of SM3. He was a huge step up from Burgess's average work on SM1.

I can live with a new production designer, though I thought SM2 and SM3 and even SM1 had excellent production work, that is expected for a summer blockbuster though. But most of all I want to hear a casting announcement that Dylan Baker is playing Lizard in the next movie. You watched Trick 'R Treat? He can be a great villain and I have been waiting for Lizard since SM1. Bring on Lizzy Raimi and co. Now.

Yep, I agree. I'm one one of those people. Even the slightest news can get me excited or hyped. lol

I can't wait for all the news we'll get with the time comes.

Once they announce Lizard and maybe a second villain they hype will die down once again. Maybe a suprise casting or two but then it will be several more months before the trailer hits. Hopefully they don't overhype it as with the last.

This forum is going to be packed once the villains are announced. :awesome:

I won't be surprised once they name Lizard as a villain, same as mysterio cause we know who'll play that part.
