Scarecrow mask help!!!

I turned one of these -

into a fear gas sprayer. I painted it black, replaced the silly string with an aerosal air freshner (my fear gas was pine fresh!), flipped it upside down so that it fired when I clenched my fist instead of the Spidey motion, and slid it up my jacket sleeve.

Hey guys. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before,

My question is regarding Scarecrow's wrist-sprayer, you know how he is able to shoot a puff of his fear-toxin gas out of his wrist? I've been searching for months and have found nothing.

First idea was to use something alike an air-freshener sort of van, which can do the same effect, but getting it to work on my wrist? That was always the problem.

At K-mart, I told my dad what I was looking for, and found this Spider-man kit but, he wouldn't allow me to buy it. Firstly he told me I was too old for toys (I'm a teenager, and I'm certainly not going to be running around pretending to be spiderman anytime soon .. I'm pretending to be Scarecrow, that's different! xD ) then when I finally got him to agree to it, I told him we'd have to get some air freshener in a can size the same size of the spiderman webbing since it's like silly-string, but then he just got upset and we had to leave the store, so I'll never know if that idea was good or a dud.

http://www.amazon.com/Spider-Man-Reversible-Red-Black-Blaster/dp/B000LDW0N6/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1217691393&sr=8-32 this is the one i saw in the store.

But I've read the movie tie-in for Batman begins, I got it kind of hoping it would describe details of whatever it is they used in the movies for Scarecrow, but they didn't really help so much because in the movie they have him kind of using a device around his waist that triggers a tube in his sleeve, which just sounds even more complicated that the spider-man idea.....

Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone help me out maybe? Thank you...

Great work you guys, its great to see people representing The Scarecrow so well!

I would greatly appreciate it if any of you could make a tutorial(not just TylerHaslett). Could I at least get some tips? I have Burlap but don't know how to get it into the mask shape. Any help is appreciated :)

Does anyone know where I can find the burlap like material used to make a Scarecrow mask? I'd like to get started on mine soon as possible.

Walmart usually has some cheap burlap(I prefer Jo-Ann's Fabric store, though. $3 for a yard). If you want higher quality, you can go to Hobby Lobby(but it's a bit pricy. Around $20). If this is your first time making a mask, then I suggest getting the lower quality burlap. You may have to make one or two practice masks before getting it the way you like it. Still waiting on a tutorial =)

Bump. Does anyone know where to get a strait jacket other than from an internet source? Like the one AZSpidey had. XD

Wanted to give this a bump since its about a month and then some days left til Halloween!

Im wanting to make my own mask so I may just do it.

Have not check this topic in a while. The scarecrow costume is not mine, but a friends so I cant give full details on it because I simply did not make it. His mask is a weathered Tyler Haslett mask and his straight jacket was simply two dresses stitched together and then weather up. Heres another pic from comic con this summer.

I also designed a fear toxin sprayer for him that you can see up his sleeve. It used the little axe bullets.

Here is mine I threw together for an impromptu Halloween party. Not anywhere as good as AZSpidey's, but I creeped some people out at the party.

Edit: I have a few ideas as to how to get my mask done, but I'm not quite sure on the best way to get the burlap I have to keep it's shape and I'm not exactly someone who is in the know in terms of sewing a bag out of the sheet.

By the way AZ (if you happen to check back here that is), what's undernearth the mask itself?

Does the Rubies mask cover the whole head? I'm planning on being Scarecrow for Halloween, dont have enough time to make one

Hi there, yes the rubies mask covers the whole head. Its actually not a bad mask at all. Probably one of the best products they made for the Batman begins/Dark Knight movies. If you want the ultimate though. Buy one from Tyler Haslett.

Man I was wondering how to do the Fear Gas wrist weapon, and that Spider-Man wrist thing is a great idea.

anyone know where i can find that spider web shooter...some where on the interent someone must have one...i've had no luck so far... :(

I would look on E-bay and/or Amazon.com.

yep tried both of those...amazon has one..but they won't ship to Canada.. :(

Thanks for the pics AZSpidey.

The mask pictured in AZSpideys posts is one that I did a few years back for Begins. I sold them on a few forums and mainly ebay.
They're made from burlap, twine, rope, thick gauge metal wire, superglue, black and brown acrylic, and square leather laces for the mouth. All materials for these except for the noose rope, can be obtained at walmart (where I got the materials for mine back when).
Takes about 2 days per mask. If anyone is interested, I can post up a tutorial on how to make your own. Here are a few pics for right now.
The weathering is indeed acrylic as someone mentioned. I slightly watered down some black and weathered the eyes with that, "painting" it on the burlap directly.
Then with a brush and water I wetted the black outwards giving it the appropriate look. I did that for the brown as well, with a mixture of thick and thin acrylics to get the overall look. Doing that process leaves the entire mask damp so it has to dry overnight, and by the next day the colors have naturally seeped where I wanted them to go. By using different layers of black and brown for everything but the eyes, as well as adjusting how much water, the weathering was controlled (since I was making alot).

The pics here with the suit top are of the very first mask I did, which I made templates from to make all the others.

Thanks

I would love to see a tutorial was thinking about making on for halloween this year. I was curious as to how you got the mask to hold the shape around the nose? This is a great looking mask.

There are a bunch on e-bay that might work. There are a bunch of versions of him out there.
