School secretary axed for speaking Spanish

It's not low.

French just take it as an insult when you go to their country, and try speaking to them at first in anything BUT French.

This makes sense. I think people get too up in arms about languages. I agree that you should try speaking the official native language when you are in another country, but I don't get too uptight like some people I personally know about it. Some people really don't understand that there really isn't much to say to people who can't speak your native tongue. I've met plenty of Spanish speakers that don't know much English, and there wasn't much to do but smile and shake their hand. It wasn't really all that big a deal to me.

Seriously.

They also don't want her to be walking around the school and suddenly bust out with this.

Well it depends on the job. I mean, I think everyone should learn a different language anyway.

And no. It's not like latinos had a meeting and said "Oye, no vamos aprender ingles para joder bell110."

"Should". I didn't, and even if I would have back in high school, I would have picked French.

The Mexicans are just taking their land back and then some. Native Americans everywhere start believing in karma.

So, it's revenge :o I see.

Way to generalize. Everyone's situation is different. Lets be completely honest here, most of these immigrants want to learn English. Most of them need to learn English to continue working and making their lives better. It's not like they're sitting around saying "I refuse to learn English just to piss off the gringos!" Which is what most of you seem to believe. That their "refusal" to learn English is just to spite America. Which in itself is ridiculous, paranoid and foolish IMO.

No, I just think when we create a environment where they don't have to learn English, they won't.

I don't know. Most (but not all) of the ones that I see with families seem to try to learn. The ones that don't are a pretty rough crowd, the ones with no attachment. These are also the ones that don't seem to want to assimilate into the culture in any way other than to drink American beer. I don't know if it's pride, obstinance, sloth, or something else.

Yeah, they want to be a part of American wealth, but don't want to be American.

Secretaries at my school are required to be bilingual...

Well, that sucks.

Our road signs are in English. You shouldn't be driving if you cannot read the language.

You know if you take out the word driving and replace it with voting you have the main tool used to prevent black men from voting once they were given the right.

Voting offices would claim that people who couldn't read shouldn't be allowed to vote. Makes sense right? If you can't read the ballot how can you vote.

You know how? You get someone to read it to you.

So if the fact that there aren't Spanish language road signs in enough areas is keeping Spanish speakers from being good drivers then we don't need to teach them English we need to make road signs in Spanish.

As a wise man once said, "So?"

Ha, that's the same thing I say when we're kicking them back over the border. "So?"

And when they complain that they've had birth in our country. "So?"

Wise man indeed.

Who is "we"? I doubt that you're kicking anyone over the border. You're probably scared of the Mexicans and hide in your mom's basement when you see them mowing the lawn.

Yeah, this "we" and "our" stuff is just silly. About as silly as the whole idea of imaginary lines determining who's better than someone else. I'm not kicking anyone back over the border.

well millions of people are crossing that "imaginary line" every year for some odd reason

Yeah, because in the confines of these imaginary lines, their natural freedom have some of the fewest restrictions placed on them in the world. And that's perfectly okay with me.

Wait....a school employee is fired for not having sex with a student!

That's shocking.

:wow:
