Well, they were talking about when, in S:TM, Superman flys up to catch Lois when she fall's from the top of the DP roof and they mentioned how he should have killed her.
They maintained that he was flying from some distance away from the building itself to begin with, and would be traveling at something like 1200 MPH to get there to save her.
Clearly traveling at this speed when he caught her would make quite the mess.
But they made three blatent mistakes in their analysis.
FIRST, Lois is on top of the Daily Planet. Clark is walking out of that same building, the Daily Planet. SO he was NOT a great distance away, he was directly beneath her. Well, maybe off to the side after he moved to somewhere to change.
SECOND, not only is he right below her, but she does not actually start to fall untill he takes off.
These first two points mean that clearly he was in no need to be flying so insanely fast to save her in time.
BUT, they are still correct that if he were to fly straight up and catch her, stopping her dead, well, she WOULD be dead. The impact would be whatever speed she was travelling, PLUS his speed.
Here is where the third and most important mistake comes in. He does NOT stop her in her tracks.
THIRD, if they actually watched the footage that they themselves showed they would have sen by the fact that the camera stays on Superman, but the wall of the DP continues upwards and then slows and reverses only after he catches Lois, meaning that he did not stop dead, but rather flew up, revesed his direction, and thus slowed her fall down when he caught her, THEN revesed again flying back up.
HA, now THAT'S the Science of Superman!!!
