Scorsese and DiCaprio Reteam on Island
Source: Variety October 23, 2007

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio will reteam early next year on Shutter Island, a Laeta Kalogridis-scripted adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel.

The film, a co-production between Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures, will start production in March. Paramount will supervise production and distribute domestically while Columbia is looking to distribute internationally.

The project will be a co-production between Phoenix Pictures, Scorsese's Sikelia and DiCaprio's Appian Way. Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will produce. Lehane, Kalogridis and Louis Phillips will be executive producers.

The drama is set in 1954, with DiCaprio in final talks to play U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, who is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.

The movie will most likely shoot in Massachusetts, Connecticut or Nova Scotia.

Lehane's novel "Mystic River" was turned into a film by Clint Eastwood, and his "Gone Baby Gone" is the basis for the Ben Affleck-directed drama that opened this past weekend.

Sounds interesting, but I'm still pissed he's not going to make Frankie Machine...

Curse you Galactus:cmad:

This should be fantastic, the story sounds intriguing and Leo and Marty back together

He needs to make another movie in Boston.

Is he still making the Teddy Roosevelt biopic? Because that is my most anticipated of his.

As for this....what can I say it's another great Dennis Lehane novel that'd make a great movie. Man they're plowing through him these days. I'm hoping for Darkness, Take My Hand or Prayers for Rain, next.

I looked up the book on Amazon and i have to say the enlarged synopsis has me even more excited for this movie:hyper:

Synopsis
Summer, 1954 - US Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Along with his partner, Chuck Aule, he sets out to find an escaped murderess named Rachel Solando as a hurricane bears down upon them. But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems, and neither is Teddy Daniels. Is he there to find a missing patient? Or has he been sent to look into rumours of Ashecliffe's radical approach to psychiatry? Rumours that hint of drug experimentation, surgical trials, and lethal countermoves in the shadow war against Soviet brainwashing ...As the investigation deepens, the questions mount. How has a barefoot woman escaped an island from a locked room? Who is leaving them clues in the form of cryptic codes? Why is there no record of a patient committed just one year before? What really goes on in Ward C? Why is an empty lighthouse surrounded by an electrified fence and armed guards? The closer Teddy and Chuck get to the truth, the more elusive it becomes, and the more they begin to believe that they may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive them insane...

Any suggestions on which actor would be suited to the role of Leo's partner ?

Is there an awesome old guy in the book? Because DeNiro should make an appearance.

Yeah it needs an extra portion with DiCaprio as lead. Good actor, but he's got no grizzle. Not yet.

Leo can do tough guy i think but obviously doesn't have the years on him for grizzly veteran, De niro and DiCaprio together with Marty ? Count me in:wow::woot:

Yeah, it would be great to see his two favourite actors in the same movie. Then add Pesci, Vincent and Liotta and BAM! Dynamite. ;)

Oh and I must say that the story sounds fascinating aswell.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter November 27, 2007

Mark Ruffalo will star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's drama Shutter Island for Paramount and Columbia, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In Laeta Kalogridis' adaptation of Dennis Lehane's 2004 novel, Ruffalo will play U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.

The film is set to begin shooting in March. It will be produced by Phoenix Pictures, Scorsese's Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio's Appian Way. Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will serve as producers. Lehane, Kalogridis and Louis Phillips will executive produce.

Paramount will supervise production and handle North American distribution. Columbia is set to handle international distribution.

Michelle Williams Books Island Trip
Source: Variety
December 6, 2007

Michelle Williams is joining Shutter Island, playing the wife of U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the Martin Scorsese-directed drama for Paramount Pictures.

Variety says Williams is in talks to join DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley in the film, an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Dennis Lehane. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the script, and Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will produce.

The drama revolves around the trip made by Daniels to Shutter Island in 1954 to figure out how a multiple murderess escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane on the remote island. He is grieving the recent death of his wife, who was killed in a fire by one of the inhabitants of the facility.

Shutter Island was an awesome book, can't wait to see how this is adapted on screen. :woot:

Scorsese's Shutter Island Renamed
It'll now be known as...

Ashecliffe. That's the new name for Martin Scorsese's next, according to The Boston Herald. The film which was formerly known as Shutter Island is based on Dennis Lehane's novel about a US Marshall (Leonardo DiCaprio) investigating the escape of a murderess who is presumed to be hiding on Shutter Island. Ashecliffe is the name of the mental facility.

We're fine with the new title, but we liked the sound of Shutter Island. It sounds a bit more mysterious and spooky. Ashecliffe's got a touch of bodices and stately homes about it. But, hell, call it what you want. It's DiCaprio and Scorsese, so we'll be first in the queue to see it

Does anyone else think that Scorsese and DiCaprio need to stop riding each other's nuts for a while? Not because they don't work well together or anything, but just to give it a rest for a bit. I mean, let's look at this:

Gangs of New York: DiCaprio was alright in it, but Daniel Day-Lewis owned the movie.

The Aviator: Personally, I didn't see what the big deal was. I thought it was far from Scorsese's best.

The Departed: Awesome film. That's all I have to say about that.

And then there's this and isn't there also a Teddy Roosevelt movie they've got planned? It's non-stop with these guys. But then again, Scorsese does have the habit of reusing the same actors. DeNiro's been in at least seven of his movies, maybe more if I'm forgetting one.
